summary: he had always been second best to everyone but you, always in the shadow of his older brother. what happens when he sees something that brings back all his deepest doubts?

since the start of your career at prema, arthur had been the first to make you feel welcomed on the team. you used to only care about going in, doing your job and coming back home, trying to go as unnoticed as possible, until a certain monegasque saw you, and he couldn't go a day longer without knowing who the shy girl that worked in marketing was.

he started saying hello to you every time he came into the office, making a joke or two to see if he could get at least a smile from you. the first day that you laughed at something he had said, it felt to him like he had just discovered his new favourite sound. since then, he had made it almost his life mission to make you laugh every time he could.

then started the coffees during the debriefs. it wasn't usual that the whole team was called for a meeting, but in the rare occurrences that it happened, he used to save you a seat next to his, with a little hot drink waiting for you to take your place at his side.

the first time you noticed it, you didn't know it was arthur's doing: you two almost didn't talk outside of the little jokes you threw around, so when you tasted the coffee and recognised instantly that it was your usual order, you assumed it had been your friend's doing. "thanks for the coffee today, really needed it" you said to her, while going back to your office after the meeting had ended. she looked confused at you, like she didn't knew what you were talking about. "well, I have to go, will you tell him for me?" he said quickly, turning his head to the man that was calling him from outside the garage. "yeah, sure, i'll tell him to go look for you once he's out".

just as you were saying goodbye to charles, your boyfriend got out of the meetings room, and saw the end of the interaction. when you turned, you saw him and waved, like you always did when you saw eachother. it was normal for you two to interact like this in the paddock, not too friendly or close to avoid any kind of speculation. he smiled at you, but it clearly didn't reach his eyes. you found it was weird, but figured that he could be worried about something that was talked during the reunion. still, what was spoken about in the private room was already forgotten, instead focusing on the interaction that he had seen. arthur found it weird, since he thought you didn't know eachother. why were you two so friendly then?

"hey, you okay? you look off today" you told him after entering his driver's room just after him, closing the door quickly behind you.

"no no, just a bit tired, nothing else" he told you softly, while laying on the small sofa there was. he had a towel on his face, so you couldn't actually see his face. "you sure? since you saw charles leaving you've been weird".

"so it's charles now?".

you found his answer weird, but his serious tone even more. "yeah... that is literally his name?" you were left confused at his strange reaction. maybe he didn't want you to meet his family yet? maybe it was too soon?

"did you get mad cause I talked to your brother?"

"you didn't just talk, y/n."

"mh, i was there. we quite literally only talked. about you" furrowing your brows, you came close, taking the little piece of cloth out of his face, and trying to understand the look on his face. arthur was zoned out, looking at the ceiling, not even glancing at you, even though you were on his line of sight.

"and were you two laughing about me as well?" you figured he was truly mad at something, since in the few months you two had known eachother, he never spoke to you in this tone, even if he was angry at something. you didn't want to believe he was actually jealous of his brother, since you never gave him a reason to be. hell, you thought today was the first time that you crossed more than a few words. "of course not, dummy. listen, it wasn't that important, we weren't doing anything wrong".

"oh come on, you and i both knew what he was doing." the sound of his empty laugh sent chills down your spine. he was now looking straight into your eyes, brows furrowed and lips sealed together. you found it exasperating that he wasn't actually telling you what was wrong, instead resolving to ask questions that you were supposed to understand or answer. "i don't know him that well to know what he was doing, arthur!"

arthur was now seated, with his arms flying towards the sky. "he was clearly trying to bring you to his side!". his reply left you even more confused. "what sides are you talking about? since when do we have sides?".

"since everything or everyone I've ever wanted always prefers him over me."

he had his palms rubbing his face, in a clear sign of frustration. you took the chance to seat at his side, putting your left hand over his back, gently caressing it. "and why do you think that's my case? I've barely spoken to him before today."

he whispered, and his voice cracked, like he was close to tears. "its what always happens, y/n. it won't be any different this time". you softly took his hands out of his face, revealing his closed eyes. still, some tears were quietly escaping his eyes, while his lips quivered.

"but I've chosen you, arthur. to work with and to live with. unless you don't want me anymore. haven't we talked about this already?" you said reassuringly. his blue eyes were glassy while looking straight at yours, and he leaned into your touch when you reached your hand towards his cheek.

"I know, baby. i think the fear just got the best of me. I'm sorry".

"I'm so tired" You said in a weak voice. The day had started so early and gone so bad. Bad thing after bad thing.

He hugged me and kissed your forehead. His lips felt soft and his body was warm.

"Let's sit for a while okay?"

You nodded. You just wanted to rest, close your eyes and sleep for days.

He pulled you close until you sat next to him. Letting your head fall on your boyfriend's shoulder, the first tears came rolling down your face.

He kissed your forehead and hugged you close, pressed his cheek to your hair and caressed your hair. He stayed like that, letting you cry in silence and let all the frustration for the day out. He knew you so well and understood how in moments like this, when everything felt like if it was falling over you, you don't needed words or motivational talks, you needed to let it out and just have someone with you.

pepe will have been talking about & manifesting this for ages. not in a way that makes you feel pressured, but inspires you to work hard to get into it – not because it will make him happy, but because it's your dream. do you get what i mean? he's extremely excited and supportive all the way, and when you tell him that you got in, it's like all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place.

pepe is the type to say "hey, let's go check out your soon-to-be uni" at 2am, out of nowhere, during summer break when you're moving in there in just a few months. and when you say "well, i've already been there", he answers "but have you seen it at night?"... and then he's the type to drive the 1.5 hour it takes to get to your dream uni, hold your hand while walking around the campus, flashlight pointed at the buildings and asking you where you'll have your classes and where you'll eat your lunch. and then he points at random benches telling you about the summer afternoons you'll spend sitting on them with your newly made besties, or nodding towards lecture halls and explaining what types of classes you'll have in them ("racing strategy 101" and "twitch streaming with your platonic boyfriend" being two of his favorite ones).

and somehow, he makes you even more excited to start uni than you already were.

paul doesn't get overly excited with you too often, but when he does, you bet his smile won't ever fade. when you tell him the news as you're walking home from a date, trying to make it sound like no big deal, he stops in his tracks and just gapes at you. then, he stumbles over his words, before managing to get out a "are you for real?!". and when you nod at him, he wastes no time pulling you up into his arms, a loud cheer erupting from his chest as he squeezes you tight.

paul would be so proud of you that he doesn't even know what to do. he wants to share it on his instagram story, tell everyone he meets on the street, scream it at the top of his lungs from a mountain. he knows he isn't allowed to, unfortunately, so he settles for telling all of his family members. he gets very frustrated when ralf seemingly doesn't care more than just a "that's great, congrats", but he knows he can trust the female members of his family to give you the reactions you deserve. his mom and sister are both over the moon, hugging you and gushing over it all, and paul just watches like "🥰 exactly what you deserve".

i think paul also really wants to help you prepare as much as he can, like helping you read through the course catalog, going furniture shopping (if you're moving away for uni), buying stationery with you... i also think he would definitely buy random stationery in the places he races in, so one day he just goes "oh i got you this notebook in barcelona" or "look at this pizza pen i got in imola, it's going to be your lucky pen in uni"....

summary: he liked to take pictures before as a side hobbie apart from racing. but now that he found his muse, he's been hiding more often behind the lense, not knowing how to ask you out.

being 22, you could never have dreamed of the position you were in at the moment: walking through the paddock, camera in hand and a press pass hanging on your neck. the weather in abu dhabi was humid and hot, but you couldn't care less at the moment. your first year as a photographer for f1's social media was coming to an end, and you still couldn't believe that this was your work. you were beyond grateful. due to being present at the immense majority of the gp's that occurred this year, your face was already known amongst the different teams. you had hit it off particularly well with mclaren's garage, being the main inspiration for lando and daniel to bought a camera and start their photographies accounts.

there was a big crowd around the aston martin's garage, and you quickly figured out it was thanks to seb. being the last grand prix of the season, the fourth time world champion's career was coming to an end, so everyone wanted to have a final look at the german. you could never have enough seb's pictures, so you tried to make your way into the multitude, until you bumped into someone's back. the man, you realized, was wearing an aston martin's shirt, so you figured he was a part of the team, even though you hadn't seen him before -you thought you would remember meeting someone this handsome before-. he politely smiled at you, like you two were the closest friends, and gave away his space so you could get alongside sebastian and snap a few pictures. he remained behind you, close but not enough to be invasive, protecting you from the occasional shoves the people around you propined to try and get closer to the driver. once you were done, you grinned back at him and started to make your way out of there, feeling a bit trapped after being so close to so many people.

when you turned to look at whoever had made that comment, directed towards you -at least, that's was what you could guess-, you were pleasantly surprised to find the handsome stranger who had played as your security guard a few moments ago.

he smiled due to your implicit confession: he was important enough to be remembered by you. "felipe. half time photographer" the boy said, showing you the camera that was attached to his neck. he was about to say something else to you, when lance grabbed him by his shoulders and yanked him, startling the poor man. "you're needed at the garage, drugo, the car's waiting for you" the canadian said, without noticing that his friend was in the middle of something. when he lifted his eyes and saw you, it was like you could see how an idea came to mind. "y/n! so great to see you here. would you take a picture here with my friend? i need to post something congratulating the new f2 world champion!".

he was rushed by lance, so you couldn't talk to him and ask why hadn't he told you who he really was. and even though you didn't run into him for the remainder of the weekend, felipe still found his way to make you smile when he followed you on instagram on monday morning, after the season had ended and you were already at the plane to come back home. the three months that separated one season from the other were spent getting to know eachother, first through texts and then via facetime: you two hit it off instantly, keeping always in touch. because of this, you quickly noticed how much you missed him when he was too busy working with aston martin, or how often he checked his phone to see if he had gotten any messages from you when it was morning on your timezone.

when you came back to the paddock once the 2023 season had begun, you quickly made your way to the aston martin garage, where you knew felipe was at. since signing his contract to be a reserve driver, you assumed that the brazilian would be there. you realized your suppositions where correct when you heard his voice, this time, in real life, and not through some device. "are you looking for someone?" he jokingly said. you turned around and gave him a big hug, answering to his ask. "some handsome part-time photographer, do you happen to know who he is?" you hadn't meant to be so forward, and even though you two flirted as a joke on a daily basis, it was different when you were actually face to face. thankfully, he just laughed and hugged you even tighter.

"i think i know where he is. should we go look for him, amor?".

after months talking, you always come back to talk about photography: after all, it was what had brought you together. so now that you had reunited, it was only right that the first thing you did together was walk through the paddock and take as many pictures as you could. sometimes, you would sneakily take a picture of him, that would be kept hidden in a folder where nobody could see. it wasn't that you were ashamed of the newfound love you had for the driver, but rather than you didn't want to ruin a perfectly good friendship for some weird feelings that you weren't sure were even real. maybe you only liked him because you had a few things in common that you could talk about for hours. you were sure that you weren't actually in love with him. maybe, you were trying to convince yourself that you weren't.

after a few hours roaming the area, you decided it would be best for you and your poor, tired, feet, to go back to the aston martin garage to rest for a bit. when you were about to reach your destination, you noticed that felipe had stopped walking beside you, and when you turned, he was a couple of meters behind, still. "what happened, feli?" you called him by the nickname that you gave him back when you first started talking. "can i take a picture of you?" he shyly said. felipe knew that you preferred to remain behind the lense at all cost, noticing this for the first time when he checked your instagram page and there wasn't a picture where your face showed entirely: you were always hidding, either behind the lense on a mirror pic, or somehow covering your face with your hands.

felipe didn't understand why you did it. he thought you were the most beautiful person in the world, ever since seeing you and your worried face for the first time, back in november when you were trying to make your way through the crowd. at the time, he hadn't realized just important you would become to him. and now, after all these months knowing about his feelings for you, he still wasn't sure how would he manage to ask you out without die trying. so the only way he found was through the camera, and with lance's help. you groaned at his persistence in taking a picture of you, but knowing that you had taken plenty of him throughout the day, you felt kinda obliged to let him have at least one.

when you returned towards him to see how the photo had turned out, you saw a certain canadian behind you, holding a sign with the words "do you want to go out with me?" messily scribbled. you laughed when you saw it, face turned red, and trying very hard to mantain eye contact with felipe. "are you behind this?" you tried to say with a serious face, but you couldn't keep your lips from curling into a smile. "i don't know. if you say yes, i might be" he replied, grinning.

The crash was scary. His car was hitten by another one and then by the barriers. But luckily he could leave it on his own foot and no serious damage was done. On the medical centre they told him that there were no big issues, only bruises and pain for a few days.

As the day went on, he felt his back and side getting worst. It was stiff and the slightest movement hurt.

You were leaving the paddock and he had an arm around your shoulders. It was a. Cute gesture of his, but you could feel how he was leaning on you while he walk.

At the hotel room, you had to help him taking his clothes off, a purple patch forming on his skin.

"Can I put some cream on it?"

His blue eyes looked at you scared. You knew that he was in actual pain but he wouldn't tell you because he is a *man*.

He would laugh a bit and roll his eyes.

So a few minutes later he was laying on his boxers, face down and on starfish position.

"Marcus, hey. Tell me if it hurts too much"

He would hiss when you forgot to warm the cream on your hands. "Ups"

Slowly and trying yor best, you gave your boyfriend a massage on the hurt area.

"You are an angel. A true angel"

You were sitting on his butt and his face was turned to the side, so you leaned and kissed his cheek. He had a bunch of moles and freckles on it that you loved to kiss. So you did. Leaving soft pecks on his skin, you wandered around his face, neck and shoulders. It helped him. The anxiety from the crash slowly faded away and his muscles relaxed. With your hands on his bruised side and your lips on his face, he felt in heaven.

"It feels so good, baby" "Are you feeling better?" "A bit" "Do you want some food? I can order something" "Oh yes"

So you ordered his favourite food and an ice pad for his back.

"Don't move Marcus, you have to put this on the bruises for a while" "It's cold" "It's ice"

You had to help him to get to the sofa.

It was funny after all. The idiot would open his mouth and you would make plane noises. "Ups, I don't have a plane license baby" You said after smashing a piece of cake on his cheek.

Laughing was painful "Ouch" "I said slow movements." "Stop making me laugh!"

At the end you started to think he was faking a bit.

"Have I told you you are an angel?" "I think so" "You are" "I am"

"Ouch. Ah. Oof" He was trying to lay on the bed without help. "Give me your hands, Marcus"

You helped him to get in the bed and layed next to him, an arm falling with care over his abdomen.

"I will bring you every race weekend" "Don't you dare to crash every race weekend"

"It would be lovely if you gave me another massage, to help me with sleeping and all." "You didn't want to"

So finally he fell asleep with your hands traveling up and down his waist. He was the cutest.

Liam's anon back. My first idea was to ask you about some enemies to lovers. Maybe they are fighting for the race, both 1 and 2 the whole time overtaking each other every few laps, when Liam has a crash (nothing too bad) and he has to retire. He is devasted after the race and you go to see him and it's all cute.

You looked at your mirrors. Liam was there again after pitting. The rain was falling heavily and there were puddles forming on the asphalt. There weren't many laps to go. You had been fighting him for the whole race.

But as soon as you faced the pitlane, right when he was trying to overtake you one last time, he lose the control of the car and we directly against the wall. You gasped, having watched him on the mirrors.

"And that's P1!" You heard your engineer on the radio. But you were feeling that excited. You had a weird knot in your stomach. A sour taste in your mouth. Liam and you weren't exactly best friends. You had been fighting the whole year for the title and each time you saw each other, the bickering was there. You couldn't avoid it. His whole presence made you nervous.

When you passed next to him during the cooling down lap, he was still next to the car. And oh, he looked devasted.

As soon as you parked the car, you went to celebrate with you team. But when you got free, you went directly to Liam. You found hin in a corner of his team's garage. It was as if he had just arrived. He still had the helmet on and his gloves were on a chair. You took a deep breath and walked to him, some members of the team congratulating you.

You couldn't believe what you were gonna do.

You touched Liam's shoulder and he snapped at you, moving his shoulder and grunting a don't fucking touch me. You took a step back, you hand close to your chest. What were you even expecting?

He looked then at you. He was crying. You stomach twisted. You had seen him furious, you had seen him in really bad positions. As he has seen you. You had always been good getting the worst of each other. But nothing like this. And you didn't even knew if he was feeling like that because of you.

He was looking at you in the eyes. He had a death glare that made you weak on the legs.

"If you came here to tub it on my face just leave. I'm not in the mood" He said with a raspy voice.

You felt your breath leaving your body for long seconds.

"I came to check on you".

"And why would you do that?"

Why were you doing it? No idea.

"I don't even know..." You whispered feeling out of breath. "I felt I had to do it"

Liam harshly pulled his helmet and let it fall in the ground, a loud thud resonating in the whole garage. He went to open his suit now, but the zipper got stuck. You saw him fighting with it for long seconds. You saw how. His breath got heavier and his face twisted. So you stepped in. Carefully and really slowly, you took his hands. Yours were shaking. He looked at you without blinked.

"Let me. Let me help you" You said stuttering in your words and barely whispering. He let his hands fall on his sides and watched carefully as you freed the zipper.

You felt as if you were alone with Liam. As if those mechanics weren't there looking at you with weird looks. They were so used to see you jumping to each other's throats that they didn't know how to act. Neither did you.

Once the zipper was half his chest, you stopped and looked at him. He had an illegible look on his eyes.

"YN, what are you doing there? You have to go to the podium". You heard someone from your team calling you.

Liam ran his hand through his hair and looked over your shoulder.

"Go" He muttered in a low voice.

You looked at him and nodded.

That felt surreal. Like a dream. As if you were on a cloud.

As you were standing on the podium trying to look unaffected by what had happened, you saw him in a corner. He was shoulder to shoulder with Juri and Marcus. He had never watched on of your podiums if he wasn't up there with you.

Later that afternoon, when everyone was leaving, you were lucky to find him. He was in his team hospitality. He was at the door talking to Jüri and when he saw you, he became silent.

Jüri turned around and looked at you, then at Liam again. They seemed to had a mental conversation because Jüri said a quick goodbye and left.

He was gestured you to come in, so you followed him. He took you to a room and closed the door. What were you going to say? What did you wanted to do?

You stared into each other's eyes for a while.

"What happened?" You asked softly. There hadn't been a crash with another driver o a difficult turn.

"I don't know. I lose the control."

"How? You are an amazing driver..."

"Don't you think I know? I made a mistake."

You closed your mouth, the cold remark hitting harder than it normally would.

"I wouldn't have win anyways"

You saw how he tensed his jaw. He had a big ego and hated to loose. Even more if it was against you.

"You raced so good, Liam." You were being completely sincere. It has been intense, hard and difficult. He had been the perfect opponent, batting you and taking the best out of you.

"And I fucked it up at the last moment"

"I wish you had been with me at the podium. I... I couldn't ask for a better enemy or... Opponent. Whatever." You looked at your feet, his gaze was to intense out of sudden.

You stayed silent for a while. When you looked up at him. He had a hand on his eyes. He was crying again.

You didn't doubt, you crossed the room in two or three big steps and trapped him in your arms. He grabbed into you at the moment. On of his arms was around your shoulders and the other around your waist. Your were around his torso. There wasn't even a millimeter between you. He sobbed in your shoulder and you caressed his hair trying to calm him down.

"It's okay, Liam".

"No it's not. I could have been in the podium with you. But I spinned and crash. Almost on the finish line."

"You will come back stronger. I know you. I have tasted it. I have seen how you are after something like this. I know you will fight for it and I would be there to make it as difficult as possible".

That made him smile a bit and you felt your heart beating faster.

He looked at you in the eyes and cupped your cheek. You gasped as he leaned and kissed you softly.

You grabbed harder into him and kissed him back.

You were kissing Liam Lawson and you were enjoying it.

Soon he had you trapped against the wall, his tongue deep in your mouth and your hands on his hair. The kiss was intense and breathtaking. When you pulled apart you were both panting.

You looked into each other's eyes.

To say that you were confused was short. You had his head between your hands, you were playing with his hair and you could still taste his tongue on yours. He had hug you, cried on your shoulder and kiss you as if you were the air he needed for breathing.

"What is going on, Liam?" You said.

"Why did you came to check on me this morning?"

"I felt it. I had to do it. I wanted to see how you were doing"

He cuddled into you. You could feel his breath on your neck.

"I'm so confused right now". You heard him say.

You nodded and kissed his cheek.

"Me too"

How did years of battles and hateful words ended like this? It was still a mistery for you.

"We will figure it out?" You softly said on his ear.

You were sitting on the couch, arms crossed and a frown on your face. Your boyfriend was an idiot. That was it.

He was nowhere to be seen, but you were sure he would appear soon. He was an annoying kid after all.

"Babeeee!" You heard.

You didn't move a single bit. Soon, you heard his steps behind you. Then he jumped over you, collapsing over your body. You were now laying in a sandwich between your boyfriend and the sofa.

"Oh my god, Marcus! Get the fuck off me"

"No util you smile"

"You are crushing me"

You pushed him and he fell to the ground. "Ouch"

"Stop!!" you were cry-laughing and trying to break out of his grasp. "Let me alone"

He didn't stop, laughing with you and ticking you more.

"Stop! Stop! Marcus please, my belly hurts"

"Say you forgive me!!"

"I forgive you, I forgive you. But stop please"

He let himself fall over you, laying in between your legs with his arms on both sides of your body. You calmed down as he softly kissed your cheek.

You looked into his blue eyes. He was so cute and handsome that you couldn't be angry for too long. And the little bastard knew it.

"I love you, YN" He gave you a kiss on the lips.

"You love me and..." You could play too.

"I love you and I won't eat your leftovers again"

You laughed and hugged him with arms and legs, who soon nestled on your chest and hid on your neck.

"I love you too, Marcus. You are just a little shit sometimes."
