I KNOW!!!!!!!!! SOMNUS THAT...CRUEL DEMON! OH MY GOD I WAS SO, SO ANGRY AND UPSET WHEN I FIRST WATCHED IT AAAAAAHHHHHHH

There are a couple theories out there, I don’t know if you’ve already seen them Faarron buddy!! They talk about how maybe Somnus didn’t really do all of those things, and how maybe the anime is told as from Ardyn’s perspective, and because he sees Somnus as the bad guy, he remembers him like that.

But whether Somnus did it for malice or because he had no option, the facts are that he did what he did and it’s...so unforgivable!! I don’t want to tag him as a villain because, who knows, maybe Somnus WAS a good guy and we’re just seeing Ardyn’s perception of him, but still, first time watching the anime I was so angry and so upset at him!!

I think that the worst part of everything is when Somnus calls him out before he can reach the throne. It felt...like such a dirty move. He lied to his brother to MAKE him appear at the castle, and then, in front of EVERYONE, he tells him he’s unworthy and that he wasn’t Chosen. Even Aera looks surprised. Like, Somnus could have told him in private before the whole ceremony, he could have told him somewhere else. I understand maybe he needed to lie to make Ardyn come back to the castle, but to make it public?

It feels like Somnus wasn’t that interested in who was the rightful king; he just wanted to publicly humiliate Ardyn. Instead of telling him what was happening in private, he went and...did THAT? Holy fucking shit that’s cruel as hell!!!

As you say, it’s understandable that Ardyn did what he did. Mostly because Noctis looks so, so similar to Somnus. I don’t justify what Ardyn did because Noctis and his friends were all innocent and did nothing to him, and Ardyn ruined their lives and tortured them unfairly. But in his defense, Ardyn spent 2000 years in captivity, literally hooked to the walls, literally in the dark during all those two THOUSAND years. His mind is torn apart, it’s destroyed! Anybody would be destroyed after that.

So I think that partly it’s not that Ardyn is doing all that in full consciousness. He was a good and kind man, he wouldn’t do that to people that he knows are innocent. But his mind, twisted, and corrupted by the Scourge, wants to vent all that anger and pain, so he takes the closest thing he has of Somnus; a descendant that looks like him. And just...goes and tores him to pieces.

Long story short, while I don’t justify what Ardyn did and I think it’s horrible, it makes sense.

A summary: it’s all Somnus’ fault that....little bITCH.

Just like you say, I’ve known other evil characters or antagonists that are usually such a giant DICKHEAD while still somehow being to my liking, and Somnus IS one of them. I mean, he’s a cool character, what with being the first king, his design, his weapon, his story and whatnot, it’s natural that we like him, not to say that he’s sort of cute (except when he’s making that ugly face, you all know which one XD), but his dick-iness sort of. SKYROCKETS.

Things are going great on my side!!! I accidentally killed my computer and all the info I had in it and I’ve been very upset about it, because I had a lot of things I had only there.
