You only live once right? Not sure if I’m going to do anything with this idea but hey, it’s better to get this out here now. Also surprisingly this is not a TWST AU. This is a LOWR AU. A Cryptid/Mythos AU. I was planning on waiting until I knew what it would actually be but I’m impatient. Especially with since this is WAY easier than posting about my MC for LOWR. So this idea has its roots in a lot of things. Bigfoot, different mythology’s, Analog Horror(even though I don’t enjoy Analog Horror), Kaiju AU for TWST, simple monsters that I love. Honestly right when I get into things is when the ideas set in. Anyways enough about that. The reason why this is a straight up Cryptid AU is for one simple reason. Magic. I consider a cryptid a creature that has ‘sightings’ that just hasn’t been proven to exist yet. Has nothing to do with magic. Not technically at least. There may be a few exceptions but they’re not the rule.

So now it’s time to get into the rambles because I’m just pulling stuff out of thin air. I figured that MC could be the human in this situation. I thought the writers could be ghosts of old research’s and Cryptids who studied and wrote about the original Cryptids. AKA the original fairytales like Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Cinderella. They used the information they compiled to keep peace for centuries. Letting the human world stay unknown to younger Cryptids. Until Dorian emerged, he thought that he should rule. That’s why the writers brought MC deep into the woods where young Cryptids go. It’s Fablewood Academy. Well not technically Fablewood Academy but it’s basically Fablewood Academy. @valy-gc what do you think?

Anyway, I also imagined his backstory:

Imperius Wovengale

Born into the illustrious House Wovengale, Imperius was destined for a life of grandeur. His family, known across the Seafoam Dominion and beyond, revolutionized merfolk fashion—elegant, flowing garments designed to move seamlessly in water and adapt to life on land. Royals and aristocrats alike sought their designs, and even surface-dwellers coveted the rare textiles they wove from deep-sea materials. Imperius grew up surrounded by beauty, draped in opulence, and accustomed to admiration, in a family with even more riches than the royals themselves.

Yet, with fame and fortune came danger. His lineage and wealth made him a prime target for kidnappings, ransom schemes, and assassination attempts. It was not uncommon for Imperius to be lured away by false friends, only to find himself locked in gilded cages, waiting for his family's negotiators to secure his release. Assassins, too, tried their hand, slipping poison into his goblets or food—but as a blue-ringed octopus merman, he was immune. The first time a captor watched in horror as he took an unbothered sip of a poisoned drink, Imperius merely laughed, more amused than afraid.

However, his family was not as carefree. Out of love and necessity, they sheltered him, surrounding him with trusted attendants and bodyguards, ensuring he was never alone. He was adored, protected, but never truly free. The world beyond his estate was something he saw only through the lens of performances, stories, and fashion trends passed down by tailors and designers.

Despite his experiences with deception, Imperius remained trusting, perhaps naïvely so. He believed in the best of people, always ready to give someone new a chance—no matter how many times he had been misled before. His wealth never made him arrogant or cruel; rather, he enjoyed sharing what he had, delighting in the joy his creations could bring.

When he received his acceptance to Fablewood Academy, Imperius was ecstatic. It was his chance to finally experience life beyond his family's walls, to step onto a stage where he was not just a noble heir but a student, an equal among others. His parents, however, were horrified. They argued, pleaded, and even attempted to bribe Headmaster Arclight into allowing bodyguards to accompany him. But Solon, ever impartial, refused. “Fablewood Academy is the safest place in all of Scriptoria,” he assured them. “He will be watched, but he will not be caged.”

And so, Imperius arrived alone, unaware of the silent vigilance of the academy’s staff. They would not coddle him, nor would they favor him, but they would protect him.

On the day of the Resonance Ceremony, Imperius was chosen by The Emperor—a fitting match. He adored luxury, he exuded charisma, and, as always, he was a little too quick to trust. Though he had spent his life draped in the finest fabrics, he had yet to recognize the invisible threads of deception that sometimes wove themselves around him.

But at Fablewood, he would have the chance to learn. To grow.

And, of course, to show the world the true art of fashion.

Bright, nonsensical color patterns that scream "I am venomous" but I’m not.

Abilities & Behavior:

Acrobatic Escape: Can jump, twist, and actually kick really hard… when remember it can do that.

Sprinting Disaster: Fast as hell but no sense of direction.

Flight? Almost. It flaps like crazy but mostly just violently glides into things.

Mimicry Attempt: It tries to hiss like a snake but usually just makes a confused squeak.

Zero Object Permanence: Hides food, forgets where. Finds food, surprised every time.

Will Eat Rocks. No one knows why. It does not digest them.

Panic Reflex: If confused (which is always), it honks loudly and runs in a random direction.

Surprisingly Durable: Somehow survives despite throwing itself into trees, walls, and rivers.

Intelligence Level: Rock.

Absolutely no survival instincts.

Runs full speed into walls constantly.

Will forget why it started running in the first place.

If threatened, it will stare blankly for three seconds before remembering to run.

If left unattended, it will forget what it was doing within seconds.

Runs toward danger just as often as away from it.

Will attempt to eat anything that fits in its mouth.

Can and will get stuck in places that shouldn't even be possible.

Easily distracted by movement, light, and sometimes just… nothing at all.

How can this thing survive in the wild?

Social Structure:

Lives in flocks of equally dumb friends.

Accidental Teamwork: If one panics, they all panic, causing stampedes.

Mates for Life (Somehow): If two bond, they stay together… mainly because they both forget to leave.

Extreme Herd Mentality: If one randomly starts running, the others immediately follow—even if they don’t know why.

Diet:

Omnivorous: Eats insects, berries, nuts, small lizards, rocks, and fungi

Magpie Instinct: Fascinated by shiny objects, collects them in burrows

Domestication & Uses:

Messenger Animal? Only if you want the message delivered to a tree.

Living Alarm System: Will screech at literally nothing in the dead of night.

Fashion Statement: Some nobles keep them as status pets, but mostly as a joke.

FAESPEAK GRAMMAR

Faespeak is fluid, lyrical, and evocative. Its grammar is relatively simple and flexible, though there are still rules. These rules can be broken if it improves the rhythm or intent—faes are whimsical, after all—but only faes can get away with that.

Sentence Structure

Basic Structure: [Pronoun Prefix] + [Verb Root] + [Modifier/Intensifier] (optional) + [Object/Subject] + [Adjective]

Example: sy’aeltheren shilthys — “I offer myself in deepest beauty” → sy- (I), aeltheren (offer self), shilthys (deep beauty)

Pronouns and Prefixes

Pronouns are expressed through prefixes attached to verbs and nouns. They are rich with tone and reverence, with several layers depending on emotion, rank, or respect.

When two following prefix/words end/start with the same letter, an apostrof is added between, keeping the letter of the word rather the prefix. Note: These are used for literary, dramatic, or reverent expression. Everyday speech favors gender-neutral forms like tya-.

Pluralization

Plurality in Faespeak is indicated by a soft-sounding suffix, depending on the word type.

1. Plural Suffix -elai (general plural, especially poetic)

kaen (their light) → kame’aelai(their lights)

ael (soul) → aelelai (souls)

2. Plural Pronouns Already Include Plural Meaning

Prefixes like ka- (they) or tye- (we) imply plurality inherently, so pluralizing the object is optional depending on emphasis.

Negation

Negation in Faespeak is usually soft and elegant, avoiding harsh sounds.

Negation Particle: nei- It is placed before the verb root, following the pronoun prefix.

aeaeltheren (I offer myself) → aenei’aeltheren (I do not offer myself)

kaelyssar (they love) → kanei’lyssar(they do not love)

Alternative poetic negations:

veil- (impossibility, sacred no) — used in oaths or curses:

Faes tend to use the same word for multiple animal from the same specie. They will call « cat » any type of feline, either lions, tiger or actual domestic cats. There is some exceptions.
