Admech Mantua: Fabric 1
This is a shiny red polyester lining fabric, it's gaudy and terrible and looks like plastic, because it is.
I fear it is perfect for the Mantua.
Admech would be really into shiny, obviously synthetic fabrics, wouldn't they?

Fabric Selection [Part 1 of 2] The Saga of the Metallic Valvet
Welcome back to another episode of Coat Construction. I want to first say that my decisions about fabric, and many other things, were informed by the amazing reference photos I had from both Aria Couture and Yosa Addiss. This post will make more sense after you've looked through all those glorious images of the actual costumes. I may also sometimes be referencing AC in my commentary. I stand on their shoulders, and cannot be given even half the credit for all the great costume study that's already been done about this coat.
With that, let's get to it!

AdMech Mantua: Fabric 2
Those are the fabrics I chose. The patterns are somewhat clashing, but I don't care. The white is a cotton with woven stripes I intend for the cog trim. I chose it because the stripes hopefully help with trim making. The red is a acetate with a woven square pattern on an angle. It's actually a lining fabric (why people would want to have the plastic fabric on the inside, where their skin is, I'll never understand), but the pattern was so perfect and it was so shiny, I had to use it. 6 m is hopefully enough. The grey are bedsheets from aldi, hopefully cotton, probably impregnated with something, but the pattern was so good, I had to get it. A not inconsiderable amount of my stash is aldi bed sheets. I intend it for the petticoat and stomacher. Actually this piece is already prepped to become the embroidered stomacher.
I also bought thread. Hopefully that's enough materials for the project, I don't want to have to buy more stuff. It's almost the new year again where I promise myself to first use up my stash before getting new stuff, and usually fail after like 2 months. We'll see how it goes this time.
