Escape from Facebook
I was on Facebook, but stupid people are arguing over a photograph of Jensen smoking, so I had to leave before I became violent.
It’s not just nazism that has enjoyed an uptick, but apathy.
I had to write this because a recent argument with a Gary Johnson supporter over the damage of sharing even innocuous videos posted by repugnant celebrities on facebook turned quite personal and dark for her. Just after I backed out of the conversation that had devolved into a flurry of multiple rapid-fire posts by her making it all about herself, something was brought to my attention; apathetic people are not only on the rise, but they are developing their own protective talking points to shield them from criticism on their lack of action and lack of support for any one side of an issue that is increasingly becoming black and white.
That MLK jr. quote, “ The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people”, or some variant is the type of quote people will share on social media, and bring out to feel politically educated, but no one ever envisions themselves as the silent ones, because the image that the quote conjures is armed “peacekeepers” hauling away your screaming neighbor while you close the shutters. It doesn’t drive home that it could also be that person choosing to be offended by people calling out the president’s immature, unprofessional, unhinged actions, and jumping to the defense of white supremacists’ “free speech”, while claiming they never voted for him, nor support him now.
And now that markiplier video. Apathy is getting smart, they are putting their good looking celebrities at the front, and talking about a concept called “respect” that is just nebulous and undefinable enough for them to not have to quantify. Jews deserve respect, and they certainly didn’t get that with that sign fiasco, but markiplier instead wants to pontificate on respect to the people telling hate speech to shut the fuck up.
We who oppose the dehumanization of groups of people, and the normalizing of that dehumanization are now fighting two fronts, not just the oppressors, but the people being aggressively silent, the people who will talk about the need for “coming together”, and “respect”, “civil discourse”, “free speech”, and many other phrases they are warping for the purpose of silencing the left.
Make no mistake, those are objectively good, feel-good concepts in a vacuum, but when used by the apathetic moderate, just remind yourself it might not mean to them what they think it means.
Update on the Trumper marine; notice how nothing about gender came into play until he started replying to me? (Again, the post is one day old).

A Trump-loving town official in Massachusetts has apologized for posting a racial slur on Facebook during an argument about Charlottesville.
Daniel Gion, highway superintendent for the town of Dudley, posted the slur while taking part last week in a Facebook political discussion and was placed on paid leave after another social media user reported his comments…

Unheard of! Facebook Argument Changes Someone’s Dearly Held Opinion
Report: Facebook is claiming that someone’s most dearly held opinion has been changed via an exchange in the comments section of an article shared late last week. When Jillian Gould posted an article that aligned with one of her most dearly held opinions, she had no idea what she was in for when several of her acquaintances jumped into the comments section to oppose her very dearly held…
