hey I submitted a program change request for a new faculty. to be accepted are they going to look at all of the courses ive taken at york or just the ones ive taken for f19-w20. and if they look at all my course grades is there any way to remove courses that ive taken years ago or petition to change them to a pass grade option so it won't be counted towards my gpa? thank you.

A faculty change is made alongside a degree/major change. In order to assess a program change they will look at all the courses you’ve taken thus far.

You can try petitioning, but you will need a valid reason. Also, I’m not sure how the completion of the forms will be coordinated as the prof needs to fill one out for their respective course, and everything is being done remotely right now. The question is, are petitions still even being processed or are they on hold..?

If I submit a program change in July (currently completing a requirement), would I be able to get into the program for the upcoming fall/winter? Im changing faculties as well.

No. You need to apply for the program change by/before June 30, then it should be processed by September 1st. Since you’re changing faculties as well, there is a short time frame between which you can apply for a program change.

Hi there, I wanted to change my program and faculty however, I took course that brought my gpa under 5.0. I was wondering if I brought my gpa up to at least 5.0 after taking courses in the summer semester, would that be counted? I’m hoping to change my program and faculty for the coming fall/winter semester.

Yes it would be because your program change won’t go through until Sept 1st.

Hey guys, I recently changed my major and was approved by the faculty. However, I am still receiving e-mails from my previous faculty but not getting any from my current one. Should I contact my faculty's department about this?

Yeah, I would let them know that you would like to be put on their mailing list. I would also suggest letting your previous program know that you’re no longer in that program and can be removed from their respective mailing list.

Sorry this is the anon about the major change. It's not just the major I'm changing but the whole faculty. Will the same answer you gave me still apply regardless of it being a faculty or degree or major change?

Again, so long as you meet the requirements it shouldn’t hurt. You may just have a bit of a hard time getting into the courses if they are reserved for people already in that major.

This is what happens when i try to switch my program from PSYC to SOCI "The requested session is not available for the type of request you are making. Please refer to the information regarding timelines and admissibility available on the Program Change page." WHY IS THAT? IM SO SCARED IM NOT ABLE TO CHANGE MY PROGRAM

If you’re a new student you cannot change programs until January 2016.

If you’re a current student making a degree change (BSc to BA) or a faculty change (Health to LAPS) with your program change (which is what you're doing), then you can’t apply for that until January 2016. Also, make sure you’re choosing the right session when making a program change. Other than that, you should not be having a problem submitting a program change request.

Hi again, about faculty and program change ( from psyc to gwst) it looks like the deadline is june 30, for the next fall/winter semester, im worried because of my current 4.40 gpa My request will be rejected. And my summer grades will not be updated until august. Do you think I should still go ahead with this? Should I speak to someone at the registrar office?

June 30th is the deadline for students to change degrees (like going from a BA to a BSc, or going from Honours to Bachelors and vice versa) and faculties (like you said).

When you apply for a program change right now, your decision won’t be made till September 1st when all your final summer grades are in. Also, while applying make sure you select the Bachelors alternative so if you don’t get into Honours you will atleast be considered for the Bachelors.

If you’re worried, I would recommend speaking to the program department like I said earlier.

Good morning! :) I want to change my program to Psychology (the BA Honours + I’m in second year) and was wondering if it’s still possible to do so at this time and who would I have to talk to in order to change it? I know I can do it online but I feel it would be better speaking to someone first before I make any changes! Thank you! :)

So I still may consider speaking to someone about the changes for my program, but I went on the program change online to see how it was and I just wanted to clarify with you guys if I did it correctly (if that’s okay!)

So the faculty is under the Faculty of Health, Degree is bachelor of arts, program type is honours, and major is psychology!

Just a little note… my current faculty is in the faculty of liberal arts and professional studies so I’m wondering if it’ll take longer since me changing my major also means my faculty will change as well :/

I guess I’m just writing this because I kind of really want to go through and do the online program change since I want to change my program ASAP! I really love psychology and have such a passion for it. The only reason why I would want to talk to someone is probably because I felt safer changing the program in person vs. online and I’m scared I would run into some trouble if I did the program change myself.

The only way to change your program is through Program Change online, you cannot do it in person. If you need advice or affirmation as to whether you’re making the right choice or not, then I would suggest booking an advising appointment with LAPS to see an academic advisor. Having said that, I don’t think you’ll have problems switching your major as long as you have the required GPA (5.00 for Honours) and if you’ve done (or are doing) PSYC 1010, then you must get a C grade to continue in the major or be admitted.

Yes, all your steps are correct in reference to the program change procedure. :)

Since you’re changing faculties along with your major, you can only apply for a program change request from Jan 1st, the system won’t allow you to before then - and yes it can take longer because they may wait for your final grades before accepting you into the program.
