Between my husband and me, BJU was charging $284/month for that tiny little house at 14 Seminar Drive.
Technically, it was a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home. We had to provide washer/dryer (that's a story) and our own A/C. Gary Weier sold us their fridge and washer. My dad found a good A/C unit at Sears. We bought a stove. So everything was ours.
It was carpeted. We could have pets.
I'm thinking that $284 was a little on the high side, but within range, I guess.
So 27% of my salary was going to pay rent. That's about the recommended standard of 30%.
I'm guessing that that's how BJU figured the rate. They looked at the $520/month they were paying each of us and charged us 27% of our salary for housing.
That was 25 years ago, of course. How are things going at 29609 now?
