I made these fairy lanterns and I love them so much! The technique is very easy and all you need are household items, glitter (if you want) and some colors. The blue on the outside of the dragon jars is watercolor on tissue paper. The fairy jar isn’t colored, I just used some white and pink glitter. I used gesso, acrylic paint or watercolor for the lids and sealed them with matt varnish. The lights are simple fairy lights from the dollar store (battery-operated). I created the snoweffect with glossy gel medium, artificial snow (the flakey stuff. It’s plastic, I think) and a hint of glitter. Wanna give it a try? Fairy Jar To-Do List and Mini Quilt

This morning I became aware of all the clutter in my house so I decided to put 100 things away. Right now I’ve done thirteen. I saw down to eat 2 tangerines for breakfast. Then I listened to Arne & Carlos’ youtube video on fixing a mistake in socks. Those are some beautiful socks and I wouldn’t mind making some, which reminds me of the Fairy J ar To-Do List I made yesterday. I wrote down 100 things I’d like to do on slips of paper, and then I folded them in half and put them in a candy jar. Then I put some fairy lights in it.  In my bullet journal I wrote the numbers 1 through 100 on ten pages. So when I don’t know what to do next, I draw out a paper. I do that task, then find the number in my bullet journal and glue the strip of paper there. Eventually all 100 papers should be glued into the bullet journal. I picked out five yesterday and did four of them, but since I managed to bash my thumb juggling, I wasn’t able to do the last task, which was cleaning out the front seat of the car.  So I put that slip back into the jar and drew it out again this morning. This is a silly method to find motivation when I’m in the doldrums. It’s fun to do and checking each one off gives me some satisfaction, and it also keeps projects from falling into the cracks and getting forgotten.

So the five slips I pulled out today are as follows:

9. Clean out the front seat of the car

88. Sweep

One of yesterday’s slips said ‘Start a new project’ so I started a mini-quilt by washing some red fabric and some scrap fabric. So the first part is to cut out 63” five inch squares. It’s from a book called Pretty Little Mini Quilts and it’s called the Corner Store design. I’m sure I’ll post  photos at some point after progress has been made.  The book calls for 3” squares but that’s too fiddly for me. I hope to use some of the beautiful fat quarters I bought last year. I hope this year is going to be all about using up supplies I already own because my house is out of space. I can’t keep bringing in new things. I need to use what I have and get them out of my stash.
