Chapter 14/??
Story idea: two non-emotional sapient robots pretend to be in love with each other to convince their human inventors that they are truly sapient and be allowed to decide things for themselves.
The ruse is kept up for several weeks before it’s figured out that both of the robots are mechanically incapable of experiencing romantic attraction and have been lying this entire time. The humans actually decide that this actually makes a stronger case for human-like sapience than “love” alone would. Most animals can probably experience an emotional state comparable to love; but this stunt they pulled clearly shows they have self-serving interests, are willing to lie for personal gain, can trust each other to keep up the lie, can predict how others will respond to incomplete or false information, and perform long-term planning.

! I tried reading this some time ago, but I’m not a big fan of Enjouji Maki’s work and dropped it. I know its a pretty popular manga so I put it on the list in case someone doesn’t know it.
