Gazing at the moon with my friends and imagining all the thousands of humans for the last hundreds and hundreds of years who have gazed at the moon together with their friends
Lately I have been praying to Freyja at night before bed. I have been too exhausted to do a proper offering, or really much of anything, but I hope she knows I am full of nothing but reverence for her.
Yesterday night I dreamed of a field full of cats. I think I will try to venture out and get some strawberries and honey to give to her this Friday…
It is kind of annoying that people often only draw or depict the Norse/ Germanic gods as having blonde or light red hair, extremely fair skin, and blue eyes. While Sif obviously is golden-haired, there isn’t much physical description of the way the gods looked in the Eddas and stories. People who worshipped these gods historically would have looked all sorts of ways. Yes, blonde hair was a standard of beauty in some cultures at certain times, but not everywhere/ all the time. There were plenty of brunettes and people with black hair, with brown eyes, and people with tanner skin who worshipped these gods in ancient times. I just wish we could get at least a bit of diversity in art that people are making of gods like Thunor, Ing-Freyr, Frigg, and Freyja, etc.
The Æsir and Vanir and Jötnar are also all different tribes, so I would think the gods from these distinct tribes looked different from eachother, at least somewhat. Often people draw all the gods no matter their tribe as identical blonde haired blue eyed extremely fair skinned copies of each other. The men are drawn muscular, and the women are drawn waifish/ very thin. I just wish there was more diversity in the way they are being drawn these days.
Sorry for the rant!! It was just on the top of my mind.
🕯️ A flaming chalice of herbs for the summer solstice, lit under the stars in the night of the longest day. May good health, good luck, and good fortune come to you 🕯️
I’ve read from different sources that Freyja’s chariot was pulled by either large domestic cats, lynxes, or Norwegian forest cats. Does anyone have a historical reference or text that speaks of the specific cats that pulled her chariot? or is that just one of those things that is dependent on culture or translation?
I always imagined her chariot being pulled by lynxes, but I know a lot of people picture it with domestic cats!

I am tentatively wanting to build a relationship with Frigg, but I wasn’t sure if the timing is right, especially since I only recently started seriously practicing again. After meditating for a bit, I decided to do a one rune pull, to ask Frigg and the gods in general for a sign if I am on the right path.
I pulled upright berkano, the symbol for the mother, for spring, for new beginnings, for the beautiful birch tree. Opening my eyes to see berkano resting in my palm was honestly a magical moment.
I put a spool of thread on my altar space for Frigg as a thank you. I feel like I just got the warmest hug, it is genuinely such a blessing to feel like you’re taking the right spiritual steps forward.
Eventually I want to find space for all of the heathen gods and goddesses on my altar, but I felt like starting with those I feel drawn to the most was a good place to begin. There might be two feet of snow outside my window, but the warmth of spring is blooming in my heart right now!
I’m so excited for the March blood moon, and to celebrate Lencten-tíd, and to honor lady Hréðe! Hail to the upcoming month of wildness and tempestuous weather, a month for tilling soil and praying for a fruitful planting season.
I love winter, and I’m happy to see it hanging on a bit longer (east coast just got a blizzard!) but I know that all things must change, so I will embrace it with joy.
about me:
Hello, Wesaþ hāle!
I practice norse paganism/ heathenry/ general Germanic pre Christian paganism.
I also enjoy learning about crafts and practices of old, such as weaving, hunting/ tanning, navigating by the stars/ with the sun, and pretty much anything related to homesteading.
(I hate weird white supremacist Norse pagans. This is not a safe space for you freaks)
