Fall 2016 Television

The new television season has started.  It seems to start later and later every year.  I know the CW shows aren’t starting for another 2 weeks at least yet.

Old shows we caught up on over the summer and added to the DVR list: 

Brooklyn Nine-Nine.  I was hesitant about this, afraid it was going to be one of those shows that worked well in gifs and snippets, but watching an entire episode would be too painful.  I was pleasantly surprised by it.  Husband and I watched the previous three seasons on Hulu, and added it to the record list.

New shows we’re interested in:

Frequency, CW.  Based on the Jake Gyllenhall movie, but with a female lead.  

Pitch, Fox.  Series about the first female pitcher in major league baseball.

No Tomorrow, CW.  A woman learns from her eccentric coworker that the world is going to end in eight months.  Maybe Manic Pixie Dream Guy?

Bull, CBS.  Based on Dr Phil’s early career as a trial/jury analyst.  I kind of went eeeeehhhhhh at first, because Dr Phil, but seeing a preview made me think of the Leverage episode with Parker called for jury duty.  

MacGyver, CBS.  I was eh on the remake, but again, a preview looked interesting.  

Pure Genius, CBS.  A genius billionare creates a super high tech cutting edge medical facility, with the hidden motive of finding a cure for the debilitating neuro condition he’s a genetic carrier of.

Timeless, CBS.  Time travel shenanigans.

The Great Indoors, CBS.  Sitcom, “An adventure reporter is sidelined by injury and is reassigned to a magazine’s digital department.”  Culture clash happens.

The Good Place, NBC.  A woman dies and finds herself in “the good place,” but realizes she’s really not supposed to be there.  To keep it from falling apart (and keep herself from being sent to “the bad place”) she attempts to learn how to be a good person.

We watched The Good Place last night.  It’s a borderline show for us: could be good, could be painful.  We’ll keep watching, see how it falls.  

We don’t have cable, so we’re not keeping up on cable series.
