“Kagari!”
Running down the steps, the sleeves of your dress fluttered in the wind as you tried to catch up to him without stumbling down the long flight of stairs. But there were many steps, and he had already walked away by the time you ran down.
Looking in both directions, you tried to figure out which way he had gone – one way was empty, the other a few men milling about. You followed a pathway dotted with sakura trees, their branches covering you with a fluffy pink canopy, voices growing louder with each step you took.
And then you heard a familiar voice, one that tugged at your heart with every word spoken.
Leaning against the trunk of a tree, your breath hitched as you spied him unseen. Green eyes sparkled like emeralds under the twilight sky, ruby red hair neatly tied up, his face as striking as it was alluring. Your gaze drifted, lingering on his narrow waist, wanting to wrap your arms around his slender torso.
His head tilted like a curious cat, his gaze meeting yours. No longer unseen, you stepped away from the tree as he approached you.
Your body filled with warmth as you watched him walk towards you; as the wind blew, the tree branches gently swayed and petals filled the air. Stilled in your spot, you were filled with awe, admiring his ethereal beauty as he walked towards you, his steps as graceful as a cat’s, through a shower of pale pink.
He didn’t stop walking until he was so close to you, so close you could reach out and run your fingers through his hair, loosening his braid and letting his hair fall in waves like a waterfall.
His eyes went wide and his lips parted, an audible gasp escaping, as you gently tugged on the cord twisted around his neck, its bell softly jingling as you pulled him closer. His expression softened as your lips met in a sweet kiss that soon grew to more.
Pressing your palm against his cheek, you gazed into his green eyes adoringly. You stroked his skin with your thumb, but quickly removed your hand from his face.
When the kiss was broken and your lips parted, your eyes were still closed. Your breathing heavy, your fingers released the tassel that was tied around his neck.
Your eyes fell to your trembling hands, the fingertips of one streaked with crimson. Your gaze lifted, fixing upon the dark red spot on the tassel hanging from his neck.
The same tassel your fingers were just wrapped around.
“Are you okay?”
“It’s just a little blood,” he said, his face filled with fascination as he wiped your fingers with the tips of his gloves, the red of the blood blending into the red of his gloves. “It’s nothing,” he added, tilting your chin up so he could look into your eyes.
It wasn’t nothing, you reminded yourself. War was a daily part of Kagari’s life here in Kogyoku. And if he was to be a part of your life, that was something you had to get used to. Fast.
“Let’s go inside. You can inspect my body for any injuries and tend to my wounds,” he teased. Heat rose to your cheeks, your body eager to remove his clothes and inspect every inch of him.
He twined his fingers with yours, a sweet tingle traveling down your spine as thoughts of Kagari danced in your head. The wind picked up as you walked, encouraging you to hurry your pace, a small downpour of petals covered your joined figures in pink as you climbed the steps to privacy.

Prompt: I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way
--- Hopefully, it'll be a part of a small series on Keith and Maeve parenting.
Ghoulie and my bestie without a Tumblr (Cosmic Latte) helped me a lot with this one. Thanks for the support, guys! I wouldn't be writing if it wasn't for you.
"Look, the asters are already blooming." Keith said with a smile, lightly tapping her waist to direct her attention toward the vibrant bushes dotted with purple and blue buds, resembling stars nestled amidst the leaves. While other flowers were starting to wither with the onset of fall, they were happily being born anew.
Maeve's lips curved into a sweet, albeit shy smile. Keith had hoped for more enthusiasm when he invited her to walk in the gardens. After all, these were their gardens, the very first project they had worked on together ever since she arrived at court, and it was growing beautifully. Keith had confessed to her that he'd never had any luck growing flowers, and she decided to show him that growing flowers wasn't a matter of luck; it was about care, about sensing those delicate plants' needs and nourishing them accordingly, no more, no less. He cherished every memory of them getting their hands dirty together and celebrating every bud that popped up from the soil. She would warn him when watering was enough and teach him how to truly connect with the earth.
Soon, the small garden plot Keith had prepared for them had become a perennial burst of colors, shapes, and fragrances. With Maeve's help, they had planned it so that various flowers would bloom throughout the seasons. It was a peaceful, ever-changing landscape that welcomed birds and bees.
Keith would never forget how adorable Maeve looked every time she sang to their flowers, claiming that music was good for them, and besides, they made for a good audience. His heart always warmed at how happy and radiant she seemed to be whenever they were there, and that's what he had hoped to achieve by bringing her to the gardens this morning. However, he was unsuccessful.
She had been acting strangely lately, as if something were bothering her, but Keith couldn't quite grasp what it might be. Not even he, with his natural talent for convincing her to open up, could break through her resolve. When Maeve was determined to keep her feelings to herself, her emotional barrier proved stronger than both of them combined, and it was undeniably frustrating. All Keith wished for was to see her happy and radiant once more.
Just that.
"Maeve," he stopped in his tracks, gently turning her to meet his gaze. She looked at him inquiringly before he took her hands and continued, "I… I understand if you don't want to talk, but I can't accept you being sad any longer. I need to… I have to know what I can do to make you happy again."
His fingers squeezed hers, and the overwhelming emotions became too much for him to maintain eye contact. Keith looked away, down at the colorful aster buds, hoping he wouldn't make them sad too. Because if Maeve was sad, it could only be his fault, right? He was the weed in their garden, the one who could only fail in trying to keep her satisfied and flourishing as she deserved.
When her voice finally sounded, barely louder than the morning's chilling breeze and the chirp of the birds, her words were so unexpected that he doubted his ears. "I'm pregnant," she murmured, and when his eyes searched for hers, they were still downcast and out of reach.
"You're…" Keith tried to confirm her words but couldn't quite repeat them. He would be too ashamed if he got her wrongly. Maeve... pregnant. Maeve was carrying their baby. A baby. They would have a baby together. He would be a father. All these disconnected thoughts coming together made his heart lurch and his stomach drop. He shuddered, unsure how to feel, especially when she seemed so down about the news. Maybe she... didn't want to have a baby with him.
The world around them felt like it was spinning, and Keith desperately tried to hold on and not to switch. Not right now. He needed to be there for her next words.
"I know it's too early, and we're not even married yet. Goodness, we haven't even properly talked about having children, and I..." Maeve shook her head, squeezing his hands with the same intensity. "I'm afraid it's too soon…"
"Too soon?" Granted, one could say things were already moving too quickly for them. Not many seasons have passed between meeting her in Néart and proposing to her in court. But there was nothing Keith would've done differently. Things wouldn't be any slower if he was marrying politically, and he and Maeve simply connected. They felt like one of the same, so all those fast-moving events felt just natural. None of it scared or overwhelmed him, on the contrary, her accepting and soothing presence only made him feel more confident than ever. Now, becoming a father was a completely new concept for him, and he was still trying to grasp it. His trembling hands moved to her waist, hesitant to get any closer to her belly. "Maeve, do you want to have a baby with me?"
Her green eyes widened, watery with emotions, and an awkward smile graced her lips, even if just a little. Maeve nodded. "I do! Of course, I do. There’s nothing I want more, but I… I don't know if you feel the same…"
"How could I not want to have a baby with you? You are the love of my life," Keith's face softened as he rested his forehead against hers, a silent gesture of closeness and support he wished she could understand. He still felt overwhelmed, his thoughts swirling like a whirlwind, but her presence was a comforting anchor amid his emotions.
"Aren't you scared?" Her doe-like eyes glistened in the soft morning glow that surrounded them.
Slowly, Keith’s fingers trailed towards the center of her stomach. The notion that their child was there kept sinking in, and so was the understanding that he would have to care for and protect the little one. It surely was scary, but the love they shared was stronger than this. Strong enough to sow its seed and grow into a new life in her womb.
And then he realized. It could be just like their garden. They could make that little, precious life thrive as beautifully as their flowers.
"I am scared…" his lips curled up in an honest reaction, despite his words. Maeve gasped in surprise when Keith fell to his knees in front of her, grabbing the sides of her body and placing a light, careful kiss on her belly. "But I am so happy, Maeve… This will be the first flower of our love, and just like we made this garden possible, I know I can raise a child if I'm with you."
Keith felt his eyes getting wet, but not like hers. Maeve was already tearful, he could understand if she got even more now, and he wanted to be there every time she cried like she did when she got on her knees just so she could hold his face and kiss him. Again, and again. Soft, sweet, and loving kisses, as happy tears streamed down her face. Well, he knew whenever he couldn't be there for her, he would.
And it made him feel less anxious about being a father. He definitely wouldn't do it alone.
"We're doing this together! Oh, Keith… We're having a baby…"
He closed his eyes and let her sweet voice guide him to the forest of his mind. Not that he didn't want to be with her. There was nothing he wanted more, and this was making him greedy. But he knew he had to let him celebrate the news too.
He would never forgive him if he didn't.
.
.
.
"Silly girl, what were ya so scared of?"
Being there felt incredible. The surprised look in her beautiful, moist green eyes never ceased to amaze him. Keith didn't hesitate before kissing her, the kiss more intense than before, as he wanted to savor all the emotions from her. Gently, he laid her down on the ground while they continued to kiss, and his hand moved to her lower belly. There, lay the proof of his existence. No matter who had conceived that child, he would be equally their father, and they would carry his memory.
When their lips parted, giving room to a smile infinitely more tender than he was used to, Keith allowed himself to become lost in her gaze for a moment. Maeve released a contented, yet bashful sigh, intertwining her fingers with his.
Keith chuckled. He knew what she was worried about. What happened to him definitely made him doubt himself and his ability to protect someone. "He would have insecurities and fears no matter when ya got pregnant, but I am here to take care of him, of you, and of our baby," he leaned in to kiss her cheek, still wet and salty with tears. "Aren't ya the one who taught us that Mother Nature has her own time? We can only revere it, and be thankful she's giving us a child."
"Don't you think it's too soon? We've already been moving so fast, and having a child is such a big step. I... I'm afraid it's too overwhelming, especially for him," she bit her lips, mirroring his insecurity. They were so alike.
Maeve squeezed his hand in hers and against her belly. "Wouldn't you want it to happen in a better time?"
"There's no better time, Maeve. I wouldn't want it any other way. We're having a baby, and this is the most wonderful thing."
He saw a beautiful smile lightening up her face before kissing her lips again. This was what Keith wanted the most — the woman he loved, carrying his child and being radiant about it.
The peaceful sounds of the birds and the fresh smell of earth, grass and flowers mixed with the rosemary of her hair in that soothing scenario never felt so thrilling.

Hi everyone this is my second entry for falling for you by @nightghoul381 and @judejazza. I did IkeVamp this time and I used the prompts sudden downpour and when we are older. If you haven't played Jean's route until at least Chapter 9/10 you won't get one of the prompts but you can still enjoy the story. It also pulls a tiny bit from the Together as One event the game did a few years back (I bought a few in the rerelease) but again not necessary for you to have read it to enjoy the story.
Old Acquaintances
Jean walked along beside the Seine his footsteps slowing as he neared the crowds of people. He stopped and his gaze scanned all around searching for those familiar faces when suddenly he heard a vaguely familiar voice calling out. At first he paid it no attention but as it got closer he turned in its direction.
??: So it is you, bonsoir Monsieur I hope you have been well all these years!
Jean: Saar?
Standing before Jean was not the child he remembered but a now almost young man, he still had the same mess of red hair though and a bright smile. He was accompanied by a young lady.
Saar: You remember me! I thought you'd probably forgotten me since it's been several years. The last time we saw each other was at this very festival actually.
Jean's memory drifted back to that day and all the events that came of it. He shook his head as he pushed those memories aside.
Jean: Yes it was, I remember you telling me how you had been doing and your plans for the future. Have things been going how you wanted them to?
Saar: Ya I'd say even better in some ways actually.
Saar turned his gaze to the young lady with him and gently squeezed her hand.
Saar: I studied really hard at the orphanage for a few years while also learning everything I could about the mines from the miners and foremen. After a few years one of the foremen and his wife took me in and they took really good care of me. I got bigger and stronger and kept learning a whole lot of stuff and went back to the mines and started implementing little things I learned. I also met Amelie last year, she's so sweet and makes me really happy.
Amelie was blushing scarlet while Saar was grinning from ear to ear. Jean chuckled to himself and a small smile crossed his face.
Jean: I am glad you're doing so well Saar, and it is very nice to meet you Mademoiselle.
Amelie: Saar has told me about you before Monsieur and a Mademoiselle, that you were there for him and helped him at the worst time in his life. He's never forgotten your words or kindness to him. Thank you for everything you did for him then.
Jean: It was something I wanted to do, there is no need to thank me.
Saar: Of course there is! Both you and Mademoiselle were so kind to me and helped me a lot but especially you Monsieur, your words meant a lot to me and because of that I've been able to go down the path I have. I always wanted to make not just my parents and adoptive parents proud but also you Monsieur.
Jean was momentarily stunned then he slowly reached out a hand and placed it on Saar's shoulder.
Jean: I can't speak for others but I can imagine that they are very proud of you. From what I see of you today and what you have told me I can say though that I am proud of you.
Saars eyes glistened with forming tears and the young man shook his head to dispel them.
Saar: Thank you Monsieur. What about you though? I hope lots of good things have happened to you, and what about Mademoiselle?
Jean thought back over the last several years since he had seen Saar a calm expression washing over his face.
Jean: Many good things have happened to me and Mad..
Suddenly Jean swayed to the left as an impact hit his right leg. He looked down and smiling up at him was a little girl with dark hair and violet eyes.
Little Girl: Papa Papa here you are! Mama, Wolf and I have been waiting for you. Oh hello Monsieur, Mademoiselle.
The little girl looked at Saar and Amelie bowing her head then Jean scooped her up into his arms.
Jean: I’m sorry to have kept you all waiting Lilly I ran into an old acquaintance of your Mamas and mine.
Saar: Wow Monsieur you married Mademoiselle? You're lucky she was so kind and pretty. Oh but not anywhere near as pretty as you Amelie.
Amelie blushed scarlett at the compliment and turned her attention to Lilly.
Amelie: I'm sorry we kept you waiting for your Papa Lilly. I hope you'll forgive us?
Lilly: Of course I will, if you knew Mama too do you want to see her? She's just a bit further down the river bank with Wolf.
Saar: I'd love to see Madem…Madame again if it's ok with you Amelie, oh and you too Monsieur.
Jean: I’m sure she would like to see how well you are.
Lilly wriggled out of Jean's arms and reached out to Amelie and Saar with a big smile.
Lilly: I can take you right to her, come on!
Saar: Why don't you and Amelie go ahead your Papa and I will be right behind you.
Lilly: Ok! Don't be too long though or my brother will eat all the chocolates Mama bought.
At that warning Lilly excitedly started running down the riverbank with a laughing Amelie in tow. Jean and Saar watched them leave in silence. Saar then turned his attention back to Jean.
Saar: Can I ask you for some more advice Monsieur?
Jean turned his head towards Saar and nodded.
Saar: I want to have a family of my own someday, like you have and I want it to be with Amelie but... I'm scared that she might not want to stay with somebody like me who just works in the mines. What should I do so that she stays with me until I can marry her? How did you do it with Madame?
Jean turned his head back in the direction of where Lilly and Amelie had run off. He could see them in the distance now along with Wolf and Mitsuki and he smiled. He thought about everything that had happened since he last saw Saar in his relationship with Mitsuki for them to end up where they were now. When he spoke at last he chose his words with care.
Jean: The best thing I think you can do is to just live every day being who you are inside and to trust in your love for her and in Amelie's love for you as you are regardless of your past. I know I couldn't see it back then but Mitsuki used to look at me in a certain way before we were together, Amelie looks at you in a similar way.
Saar: Wait you said used to, does she not look at you like that anymore?
Jean: No she doesn't, it's evolved into something much deeper over the years.
Saar broke into a big smile.
Saar: I hope Amelie's does the same then, thank you again Monsieur for everything.
Jean and Saar started walking down the riverbank again towards where everyone was waiting for them when suddenly Jean halted. He reached out and gently grabbed Saar by the arm.
Jean: There is one more thing, make sure you actually propose, in a way you would do it not anyone else and do not wait until your wedding day for it.
Saar: Are you saying you never proposed to Madame!?
Jean: I did, just we were at the altar when I did so. Some of our friends still remind me of that mistake to this day. I would not want you to go through the same thing.
Saar: Geez Monsieur I already thought you were lucky to have married Madame but you must really have been blessed by God to still have her after hearing that.
Thank you, anon, for this request! Enjoy some fall fluff with Gilbert.

You were filled with nervous excitement as you opened the oven door. Warmth spread across your cheeks as you peered in, happy to find the muffins, studded with bits of dried fruit, were the perfect shade of golden brown.
Your surprise was going splendidly.
While it was still early, the sun’s rays only just greeting Obsidian Castle, you knew Gilbert would soon wake. And when he did wake, he would be looking for you.
Using a thick towel, you pulled the tray of muffins from the hot oven, filling the kitchen with the fragrant aroma of fall. Placing the tray down on the counter, you admired your handiwork – the muffins might not have been perfect, but they were made with love. You had woken up especially early that morning; unable to go back to bed, and not wanting to disturb Gilbert who was sleeping so peacefully next to you, you remembered you had bought some dried fruit at the market the other day and wanted to surprise your lover with a special breakfast.
Crawling from under the cocoon of covers, you were careful not to disturb the sleeping Gilbert. Taking one last glance at him before leaving, your heart ached at how soft he looked – with his eyes closed and his eyepatch off, his dark bangs falling across his forehead, he was the picture of innocence.
But that was not his reality. Or yours.
You quickly pushed those thoughts from your head, knowing you had to act fast if you wanted to succeed with your surprise. Throwing on a simple black dress, you carried your shoes in your hands until you were out the door so that your footsteps wouldn’t wake him up as you crept from his bedroom.
The muffins smelled delicious, the dried apples and cranberries adding just a hint of sweetness. Piling them high on a plate, your body pulsed with excitement, eager to wake Gilbert up and give him the treats. With the plate carefully balanced in your hands, you turned, and nearly dropped the plate when you saw who was standing in the doorway.
“Gil! What are you doing here?” you asked, quickly placing the plate down on the countertop, hoping disappointment wasn’t evident in your expression.
“I could ask you the same thing, little rabbit.” His lips were pressed firmly together as he approached you, his cane tapping on the tile floor. “Imagine my surprise when I woke up and found myself alone in bed.”
It wasn’t until he was mere inches away from you that you noticed he was without his usual black cloaks. Dressed simply in slacks and a dark silk shirt, Gilbert looked less imposing as he leaned on his cane, head tilted as he stared into your eyes.
“Instead, I found you here.” He let out a sigh, the sound soft and sad.
Oh, Gilbert.
Cupping his cheek with one hand, you caressed his cool skin as you reached towards the plate with your other hand, picking up a muffin. Holding the treat in the palm of your hand, you watched his eyes widen with surprise.
“I made these for you.”
“You…” His words slipped away as soon as he took a bite of the muffin. His eye drifted closed as he savored the sweet treat.
He finished the muffin in a few quick bites and held his hand out, silently asking for another. Your heart filled with warmth, knowing your surprise was well received, happily placing another muffin in his gloveless hand.
And another muffin after that. And another, and another, and another until the plate was empty save for a few crumbs.
You let out a small laugh when he continued to hold his palm out even after the plate was emptied. “There’s no more left.”
His usual smile morphed into a frown. “Next time, you’ll need to make more.” He brought his hand to your neck, his thumb tracing the outline of a mark left uncovered by your dress, his touch sending a thrill down your spine. Your eyes met his in a moment of silence, before pressing your body against his in an embrace.
“Closer.” His whisper was feather-soft in your ear. Burying your head against his chest, you could feel his heartbeat through his thin shirt. His arms tightened around your waist. “It’s so warm in your arms.”
You found yourself melting into his embrace. It was easy, really, to simply relax in his arms. Nothing else mattered, just you and Gilbert. Together.
With his thumb, he tilted your chin up to face him. “Don’t think I forgot about earlier.” Heat burned in your core as he stared at you with his blood-red eye. “You’ll be spending the day with me. In my room.”
He brushed a kiss upon your lips. Gentle. Soft. Unlike the bites he would later leave on you once you were alone in his room.
But that was okay. You had grown to love his bites, much like how you had grown to love Gilbert. A day trapped in his room might sound like punishment to some, but for you, it was a pleasure.
“Okay,” you whispered back, pressing a kiss to his lips. He tugged on your hand, his grip firm as he led you from the kitchen to his bedroom, the fire in your belly burning bright.
A/N: My first entry for Ikemen Prompts Week 1 hosted by @ikemenprompts. Also part of Falling For You Content Creator Challenge hosted by @judejazza and @nightghoul381.
Pairing: Kicho x Reader
Prompt: Mirror/Love/Color Palette (Ikemen Prompts Week 1) and Coloured in Fire (falling4uccc)
Word Count: 628

“Kicho…it’s beautiful.”
Beautiful was an inadequate word for the fabric that rested in your hands. Exquisite. Luxurious. Opulent. But even those words couldn’t fully describe the beauty of this material. The rich rouge silk was thick yet soft, perfect for the cooler weather. Embroidered gingko leaves were sparsely scattered in shades of rose pink and peachy orange.
Smiling like a kid in a candy store, you held the fabric in outstretched arms, admiring how the smooth silk draped over your fingers, the colors of autumn dancing before your eyes.
He cupped your cheek in his hand, his pleased smile crinkling his hazel-green eyes. “I thought you could use this to make a dress for the party.”
Your eyes widened in a panic. The party. His party. That he was hosting.
“But that’s only in a few days!”
Kicho’s green eyes glittered as he offered you a sly smirk. “Then you better get started.”
******
Standing before the mirror, you preened yourself like a parrot as you fixed your hair. It was definitely a rush to finish, but you completed your task just in the nick of time.
Gazing into the mirror, you admired your finished product - an exquisite kimono in all the shades of autumn. The thick fabric draped elegantly over your body, the soft silk caressing your curves.
You were thrilled to have found some leftover fabric in a rose pink shade that complemented the kimono to make the perfect obi. Picking up a delicate gold and garnet hairpin, another gift from Kicho, you tucked the finishing touch behind your ear.
Kicho was silent as he entered the room, his steps as quiet as a cat’s. You didn’t notice him until you felt his arms around your waist, his warm lips brushing against your cheek in a chaste kiss.
“You look radiant,” he whispered, his breath warm against your ear. “Like you’re coloured in fire.”
Your face flushed with heat at his words. And Kicho was right – the overlapping fan-shaped leaves flickered like flames across your body.
“I knew as soon as I saw this fabric that it was perfect for you.” He ran his palms down your sides as he gazed adoringly at your reflection in the mirror. “Do you know what ginkgo leaves symbolize?” he murmured as he guided you towards the bed.
You shook your head, his body leaning over yours, words escaping you as he lightly traced the outline of a leaf right above your beating heart. “Longevity. Endurance.” As he placed his palm over your heart, his lidded eyes sultry as he gazed into yours. “That is my love for you,” he whispered before his lips met yours in a passionate kiss.
Wrapping your arms around his shoulders, you deepened the kiss, a muffled sigh leaving your lips as he pulled your hips tight against his. His hands left your waist, a soft groan filled the air as his palm slid down your thigh.
Forget the party, your body wanted to scream. Take me now.
But you had to attend. You both did, as it wasn’t just any party, but a celebration for Kicho’s birthday.
Pressing your hands upon his chest, his heart pounding in his chest, you broke the kiss with a quiet whimper, knowing full well that if you kissed any longer, you would both soon end up undressed.
Not now, not yet, he said with his eyes, his soft smile stoking the fire inside you.
“I nearly forgot…” Turning back to the vanity, you picked up a small square of fabric. “I made this for you,” you said, handing Kicho the handkerchief you made of the same silk of your kimono.
Hello! I would like to request a fic with Elbert going out on a picnic with the reader. Prompts are: Established relationship + Fluff
Have a good day! 🫶💖
A perfect prompt for the Falling For You CCC that @judejazza and I are hosting!!
I actually really enjoyed writing this so I hope you enjoy reading it!!
The Perfect Date
Pairing: Elbert Greetia x Reader
Prompts: Colored in Fire and It's Warm in Your Arms
Genre: FLUFF! Pure fluff and cuteness ^w^
WC: 903
A soft knocking at the door catches your attention as you wrap your scarf around your face. Despite the now chillier weather, the sun had been so bright and inviting, you had decided to see if you could convince Elbert to go out on a picnic with you. He rarely left the castle during the day when it started to get cold, so you wanted to take advantage of the last vestiges of summer before they were swallowed up by winter’s chill.
“Are you ready?”
You can hardly hear Elbert’s voice through the closed door but you were used to how soft spoken he was and could now easily pick out what he was saying.
“I sure am! We just need to stop by the kitchen so I can grab the basket and we can head out!” You reply, bouncing excitedly over to the door. When you swing it open you see that Elbert is… well prepared to say the least. His frame is nearly doubled in size with a ridiculous number of layered long coats and what appeared to be at least three pairs of pants.
You stand gawking for a moment before Elbert clears his throat and mutters, “I don’t like being cold.”
You stifle a giggle before taking his hand in yours, feeling the soft leather of one of Alfons’ gloves covering his silky skin. He really was so adorable sometimes it was hard not to dote on him like a small child.
A short time later you find yourself nearing the park you had picked out for your picnic. Elbert’s deep blue eyes flicking to stare in awe at the multi-hued trees blazing brightly in the sun. Vibrant reds and oranges against faded yellows created an almost fiery appearance and you had to stop more than once to wait for him to catch up. For a man with such long legs, he takes surprisingly short steps.
By the time you finally reach the little clearing you’d found before, the sun had begun to make its way toward the tops of the beautiful trees.
You quickly lay out the tartan cloth, setting out the food you’d prepared and handing Elbert a small sandwich.
A soft smile spreads across his face as he daintily takes it from your hand and begins to nibble at it. He never has been much for eating, but even so, you find yourself relaxing as you tuck into your own food. The wind suddenly picks up, sending a swirling torrent of leaves dancing around you and burying themselves in your hair.
Letting out a giggle, you glance up to see Elbert’s face twisted in a grimace. A leaf has managed to cling to the top of his sandwich and he sits there staring at it, clearly disappointed.
“This leaf wants my sandwich,” he states, setting it down on the cloth beside him and letting out an exasperated sigh.
“Elbert, just take the leaf off!” You laugh before you see his blue eyes flash toward your face, mischief glinting in their depths.
“The leaf may have the sandwich. I’m not hungry any longer. I’m just cold.”
His statement is ended with his arms stretching out, inviting you into his embrace. You gratefully accept, crawling into his lap and sighing happily as his arms wrap around you. His chin rests on your shoulder and you feel his head lay against your jaw as he takes in a deep breath.
“I don’t like being cold,” He sighs. You feel a pang of guilt. Perhaps it would’ve been a better idea to just have gone to the local café that you typically went to. Just as you open your mouth to apologize he adds, “Unless I have you here to warm me up.”
Your heart sings as the gentle words fill you with a blissful affection. His arms squeezed just a bit tighter and you let yourself melt against his chest, letting out a contented sigh.
You’re not sure how long you sat there, curled in each other’s warmth, but soon the sun had set the trees ablaze and Elbert quietly gasps.
“I think that this moment is beautiful. I don’t want it to end.”
You know that he’ll struggle with not being able to ‘obtain’ this beautiful moment, but you also can’t help but agree. If you could stay here in his arms, with such a beautiful scene before you, forever, you would be the happiest person in the world. Just for this moment, you decide to indulge him, closing your eyes and fully losing yourself in his embrace.
A soft grumble, followed by a sigh, signals that the ‘beautiful’ moment has passed and when you open your eyes, you see that the sky has nearly faded to night.
“It’s getting colder. I don’t want you to get sick, so we should go,” Elbert sighs, laying his forehead against your shoulder before releasing his arms and allowing you to get up. Glancing back, you press a soft kiss to his lips at the sweet sentiment before hopping up and packing everything into your basket.
Finally arriving back at your room at Crown Castle, you and Elbert make your way over to the bed and bury yourselves under the blankets. The chill may have gotten to you more than you had thought, but it was a small price to pay for being able to warm up in your lover’s arms.
