Hey friend, do you think Cooper actually speaks any Spanish? (Beyond "Feo, fuerte, y formal") I ask because 1.) His pronunciation was pretty damn perfect. And 2.) I hc that Lucy was taught at least Spanish and Latin as part of her VaultTec education. Possibly other languages as well.

Oooooh that’s a good question, I’m afraid I don’t speak a word of Spanish so am not sure how accurate his accent etc is, though I imagine he’d have learned conversationally at least in the war as I can picture that as a total melting pot. Lots of slang/swearing etc

Language in the vault however I think is super interesting, as I think we’d need to consider whether vault-tec’s idea of the perfect society would be a multilingual one, as I imagine everyone in the vaults would be expected to speak the same language - and likely many original languages would be lost.

There’s been some really interesting studies into how learning multiple languages raises aptitude for learning generally, but when you consider the isolation of the vaults and lack of native speakers to practice with, you have to wonder if they did teach other languages how…accurate those languages would be 😂

Also I bet each vault would have its own odd slang - like how you can place where someone lives in the uk by the slang they use. There was a fun tool produced a few years back that did accurately place me in Lancashire just because we use bap/ginnel/owt/mither/brew etc that you won’t hear as often in other regions
