Is your MacCready's affinity glitched?

Are you worried about this glitch and dead-set on romancing him?? Well then, friend, I have some tips for you!

I noticed several posts about this in his tags as people have been coming back to the game (or playing for the first time, welcome!). As someone with several thousand hours in this game, who maxes MacCready in every play through, here is what I have learned (I will try not to spoil anything about his quest or story in this):

-This glitch does not occur completely randomly. It is more likely to occur under certain conditions. As his affinity is raised he will ask you to do two major things for him. Until you do these things his affinity with you will be capped. If you hit this cap before completing the current quest objective you are more likely to encounter this glitch. The longer you let it go, the greater the chance that he will break.

How to avoid this glitch: At 25% affinity he will have his first conversation with you, and give you the first quest objective. At this point, his affinity with you will be capped at 49.9%. If you are getting close to the cap (about 40%) you must either do the quest immediately, or leave him at home for awhile (or somewhere he won't get any passive affinity gains like wearing power armor near him).

At 50% he'll give you another dialogue, and his affinity cap will be raised to 75%. At about 75% he will give you a second quest objective and his cap will be raised to 99.9%. Again, make sure to do the quest before you reach the new affinity cap. After that quest concludes, you should be able to gain affinity freely and he'll do his final talk at 100% (The cap is actually maxed at 110%, but 100 is the final threshold)

This is much easier to keep tabs on if you have a mod like Visible Companion Affinity (Which I believe is available on console and PC).

How to fix this glitch if you have it: Unfortunately, console commands will not work. The only reliable method for fixing this glitch is to load a previous save from before you reached whichever affinity level cap you got stuck at, and finish his quest objective asap.
