The Independent Fallout Wiki is moving!
That's right, the Independent Fallout Wiki is moving! Now what does this mean for our editors and readers? Here is everything you need to know...
Tonight, the IFW will be switched into "Read Only Mode" for a short period of time while we transfer our data to another server. This means that users can no longer edit pages, but can still find pages and browse as usual.
We're teaming up folks at @uesp for our hosting needs, but the content we create and host is entirely curated by IFW members. That means the IFW will REMAIN independent!
Users might notice an ad or two on the site, these help cover our increased operating costs! If users log into an IFW account, these ads will be disabled.
Once all of our database is moved, the wiki will come out of "Read Only" and editors can resume editing and the website will function as normal. Please report any hiccups you may experience post move to the IFW social media, or to our staff in our Discord server.

The gaming world is reeling after a surprise announcement: Microsoft, owner of video game giant Bethesda Softworks, has abruptly shut down the studio's French division, Bethesda France. This move shrouded in secrecy and lacking clear communication, has left the French gaming community – particularly Fallout fans – feeling frustrated and uncertain about the future. A Decade of Fallout Ends Abruptly Founded in 2012, Bethesda France served as a crucial point of contact for French gamers, fostering a vibrant community around iconic franchises like Fallout. However, after nearly ten years of operation, the studio's doors have slammed shut, leaving a void in the French gaming landscape. Microsoft's Sudden Closure This closure comes at a particularly sensitive time. The Fallout series is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, with fans eagerly awaiting upcoming projects. The French Fallout Generation, a dedicated fan community, expressed their dismay: "This will not affect our association's activities," a representative stated, "but recent events will undoubtedly complicate future projects we envisioned with official support." A Community Left in the Dark News of the closure was met with a wave of confusion and anger. The process appears to have been shrouded in secrecy, with Bethesda France representatives remaining silent for months leading up to the announcement. This lack of transparency regarding employee layoffs and the decision to shut down the studio has left the French gaming community feeling disrespected and out of the loop. The silence surrounding the closure also raises questions about Microsoft's commitment to the French market and the future of the Fallout franchise within the country. While the closure may not directly impact Bethesda's global operations, the loss of a dedicated French branch could significantly hinder future projects, marketing efforts, and community engagement in a region with a passionate player base. Fallout for the Fallout Community The sudden closure of Bethesda France has sparked concerns about the future of the Fallout series and its dedicated French community. Here are some key questions that remain unanswered: Will future Fallout projects receive proper localization and marketing support in France? How will this closure impact community events and fan interaction within the country? Will Bethesda establish any alternative form of support for French gamers? Without clear communication from Microsoft, these questions continue to plague the French gaming community, fostering a sense of uncertainty and frustration. Beyond France: Broader Implications for Bethesda While the immediate impact is felt in France, the closure of Bethesda France has broader implications for the studio's global operations. This move raises concerns about: Microsoft's overall marketing strategy for Bethesda titles in international markets. The potential for future studio closures in other regions. The company's long-term commitment to fostering dedicated gaming communities around the world. The suddenness of this closure, coupled with the lack of transparency, has left a dark cloud hanging over Microsoft's handling of Bethesda. Only time will tell how these events will ultimately impact the future of Bethesda and its beloved franchises like Fallout. FAQs Q: Will future Fallout games be available in French? A: It's unclear at this point. While the closure of Bethesda France doesn't directly impact development, localization efforts for the French market may be affected. We need to wait for further announcements from Microsoft. Q: What does this mean for the French Fallout community? A: The community is concerned about a lack of dedicated support and engagement going forward. Whether Microsoft establishes alternative solutions remains to be seen. Q: Is this closure a sign of future studio shutdowns by Microsoft? A: The reasons behind the closure haven't been disclosed. It's difficult to say if this is a one-off event or a sign of a broader strategy by Microsoft.
