#false black widow

I finally found a female cupboard spider! right next to a male {who I couldn't ge a clear picture off cause the bastard wouldn't stop moving} - it's cool to see their sexual dimorphism side by side.

you can easily see where they get their other name from: the false black widow spider. especially those that don't have the brown pattern on their abdomens who look a lot closer to black widows even! thankfully here we don't have true black widows - only redbacks. and since they wear their red on the top of their abdomen it's easy to spot the difference between a redback and a cupboard spider.

What a nice looking lady! She's a false widow in the genus Steatoda, probably a false black widow, Steatoda grossa.
