Thorns snagged Alexander’s tail as his right arm was jerked up and twisted behind his back, painfully lifting him an inch off the floor. Bits of rough leaves settled in his hair and on his clothes, having ripped off the bush where he was hiding with the sudden movement.
“Hiding again?” A voice spoke up from behind him. Alex did his best to try and smack the person upside his head with his left arm, but given the position he was in, it just flailed a little.
His aggressor chuckled. Just slightly. Enough for Alex to stop dead in his tracks. He would never forget that laugh. Slowly, he looked over his shoulder to see the face he had burned into his memory for years.
Samuel Seabury, with his subtle glow that comes with being an angel, smirked down at him.
“I’ll never forgive you for what you did to John!!” Alexander yelled, thrashing his arms and legs with all his might.
With surprising strength, Seabury held strong, eyes sparkling. “You don’t even have proof that it was me. Although I must say, it was a job well done. I’ll gladly take credit.” Alex screamed so loud a couple Fae picked it up from almost a mile away. It wasn’t a scream of physical pain, just one of mental anguish.
After that, Alex just couldn’t. He gave up. He let Seabury haul him to wherever with no struggle. After a while, he passed out.
It just so happened that Seabury was hired by Thomas Jefferson, the Dragon King. Alex was slapped awake, and found himself bound with ropes and some strange force one could only describe as magic.
His chin was lifted by an invisible hand to face the person in front of him. Eyes bleary as a result of having just woken up, all Alex could pick up was a glint of gold that he would recognize anywhere.
Standing in front of him was the man from the room where it happened. The man that had serious ties to the crimson ruby and what had turned Alex into what he was now. Attempting to focus, he caught a glimpse of two beautiful off-white curves that could only be horns of a dragon.
It took a while before Alex realized he was standing in front of the Dragon King. He tried to stand up but tripped over another length of rope tied around his ankles.
“What do you want with me?” He asked harshly, trying not to show any sign of weakness.
A club hit him from behind, along with a growl. “Watch your mouth, kid. That’s the King you’re speaking to. Have some respect.”
“Hold on, hold on. Be a little more hospitable, Seabury.” Thomas spoke. He looked down at the prisoner who had been stealing from him for quite some time now. The resemblance to the fox from that one day was uncanny. He was certain that this was him.
“Well we’re going to kill him anyways. That’s what we do to thieves.” Seabury smiled devilishly, despite being an angel. “And I have the perfect tool for the job.”
Seabury pulled out a sabre. Nearly entirely made of steel, it was a work of art. The handle was embossed with all sorts of swirls that ran along the dull part of the blade to the tip. The blade was slightly curved at the top, giving it an elegant and regal vibe. Seabury then swung the sabre above his shoulder and brought it down in a swift, angled motion directed towards Alexander.
Before the blade could touch a hair on Alex’s head, Seabury’s blade was stopped so abruptly a loud pop came from his arm. He screamed, his hand still attached to the sabre, but his arm hanging limply from that point.
“I’m sorry, I odn’t remember giving you that order.” Seabury whimpered as Thomas walked up to him menacingly. “Do that again and more than your arm will be broken.” Thomas pointed two fingers at him and flicked them to the side, flinging Seabury into the wall where he slumped, unconscious.
Thomas snapped a finger and Seabury lifted into the air and followed him out of the jail cell. On the way out, Thomas told Alex some key details.
“Congratulations, you got yourself caught and now you’re my prisoner. You’ll get a meal at each 9 o’ clock and your cell will be cleaned once a week. You’re permitted to request my assistance every day but Sunday, Sunday is my relaxation day. Other than that, you’ll need to ask me for everything else. Any questions?”
Before Alex could speak, Tomas shut the metal door and locked it. He then looked Alex straight in the eyes and said: “I saved your life. You owe me.” and walked away.
