Candid photos of the Beatles from c. 3rd March 1967, during the recording and mixing of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds at EMI Studios, Abbey Road. Most of these are fan photos taken outside the studios as the boys arrive/leave.

A fan photo of George credited as being taken during his stop off in LA on his way home from holiday in Tahiti (with Pattie, John and Cynthia), and dated as 25th May 1964.
what do you think george thought of his fans? i know he wrote apple scruffs for the core fans of the apple period and i’ve read some sweet stories of letters and records he sent to fans but on the other hand his fans and their admiration seemed to make him uncomfortable at times. what are your thoughts on how he viewed his fans? i love your insightful posts!
Hi,
First off, sorry for the time it’s taken me to reply to your ask. I went back and forth on how to answer your question, so I might revisit this again later.
I think to people outside the fandom (those poor lost souls) George might seem like this grumpy, miserable and ungrateful figure who despised his fame and fans (who’d made him so rich) and locked himself away in his gothic mansion for years. Whenever you see things quoted from George, often he’s saying how crazy it was and how scary and stressful Beatlemania was.
..which is true. He did have an uneasy relationship with that side of things, but the fans, I don’t think he had a problem with. I think all the Beatles were actually very accommodating of their crazy mad adoring fans - because really, some were over the line (turning up on your doorstep all hours of day and night, loitering outside your house constantly, breaking in and stealing things). I’m not saying I wouldn’t have been there with them, if I’d been around then, but still…
George in particular, I think, was very kind to his fans. I think he always had a sort of “I don’t know what the fuss is about” attitude - like he didn’t see why he would be worthy of all this adoration from strangers. Which is ironic as George was such a fan of the things he loved himself. But I can’t recall any instances or stories where George was mean or ignorant towards fans at all. There are hundreds of fabulous fan stories and fan photos of George, and he seemed always pleased to stop and talk or have his picture taken.
I don’t think the fans made George uncomfortable. I think Beatlemania en masse did, and I think hated the riotous nature of that (he would prefer it if you’d shut up and listen to the music!) But I think he was actually alright with the fans.
While the years they come and goNow, your love must surely show meThat beyond all time and spaceWe’re together face to face, my Apple Scruffs
These are some of my favourite lyrics. Here’s a few select fan photos:
Everyone’s favourite - did you get dressed in the dark, George?!
I’m not entirely happy with this reply. I might get back to you at a later date. Sorry for the late reply as it is. x
