Who was actually responsible for killing Armstrong and how did the others react to this? I imagine Mohawk being PISSED as hell considering he was the most vocal about NOT killing him
Okay so I was going to wait to answer this, because it's not a canon variant, and I wasn't sure about whether or not I was ever going to actually discuss my boy here lol
In my TITMU AU, my fan-variant, Marko/Judge Mark killed Angstrom.
So, Marko didn't actually voluntarily participate in the Invincible War.
Marko was obsessed with keeping his world safe, so when Angstrom came from another dimension to try and recruit him, Marko immediately tried to kill him.
1: Marko does not trust anything extra-dimensional.
2: Marko thinks of himself as a hero, so when a guy came from another dimension to say, "Come help me ruin the life of another version of you by wreaking havoc on his world, and I'll give you your dad back," Marko essentially thought, this guy's EVIL evil.
Of course, Marko is still Mark, so he fell for the old sudden portal trick, and ended up in the main universe.
During the war, Marko actually killed a few of the variants (Swimcap being one of them, because I hate his bitch ass lol)
Since he wasn't involved in any of the discussions, and didn't know how Angstrom's powers worked, he assumed it was magic and made the unfortunate guess of Kill the wizard, send us all home, save this world.
So while Angstrom was busy preparing to send the variants to the wasteland dimension, Marko came in from behind and ripped his head clean off his body.
Yeah... Mohawk was not very happy.
Marko also wasn't happy, because Marko feels like he has a responsibility to get back to his own dimension and protect his people. (of course, he's not 100% the hero he thinks he is, but I'm not explaining his entire backstory right now lol. There's a reason Main Mark is supposedly the only "good" Mark. Road to Hell is paved with good intentions, and all that...)
I'm going to put this under a cut because it's getting long.
Marko genuinely thinks he's the good guy, and in some ways, he's not wrong. He's just... the worst kind of "Lawful Good". You know, the jackass D&D Paladin who fully believes the ends justify the means as long as he's got good intentions?
I call Marko "Judge Mark" because he's got that "Judge, Jury, Executioner" mentality.
His world was pretty normal, almost identical to Main Mark's universe when he was growing up. The biggest difference being that Marko's best friend had an abusive father.
Marko was twelve when he got his powers, and the very first thing he did was kill his friend's dad. This taught him from a young age that he can "take matters into his own hands," for better or worse.
His Nolan then had a long talk with him about responsibility, and the need to train his powers—after all, he'd need to be ready to fight a lot worse than his human friend's abusive father some day.
Marko threw himself into his training, to the point where it worried his mother. He'd be out all hours of the night, and then barely be able to drag himself to school. He and his father were very close because of how early he got his powers. Nolan had all the time in the world to train him, mold him into something Viltrum would be proud of... and Marko ate it up. Marko had no idea that some day, Nolan would want to take over Earth—he was told the same lie Mark was told about Viltrumites essentially serving as interplanetary humanitarians. He was proud to be a viltrumite, and wanted to be the best he could be.
His Debbie didn't want him over-extending himself like that, especially as young as he was, but there wasn't much she could do about it when he'd just fly off to go train with his dad. Nolan was obviously no help, since he considered Marko's viltrumite training much more important than a human education.
Marko loves and respects his mom, and for a few years, he tried to manage both school and the reality of being a viltrumite, but eventually something had to give.
He dropped out of school at fifteen to focus on training and superhero work, feeling like he wasn't a normal kid, and he had a responsibility to accept that.
By the time he was seventeen, he'd killed off a good deal of supervillains. Debbie worried about her son's disregard for life, but Marko saw it as a regard for everyone else's lives, since the villains he killed didn't care how many people they hurt. Nolan only encouraged this.
However, Nolan miscalculated. He thought that Marko would follow him without question when he decided it was time to take over Earth for Viltrum, but Marko's loyalties were with Earth. He fought his father to the death, narrowly winning only because Nolan hesitated and gave him an opening.
Marko was grief stricken after killing his father, but instead of allowing himself to process that grief, he decided he needed to ready Earth to fight against Viltrum, knowing that sooner or later, the viltrumites would be coming.
Debbie tried to reason with him, but he was determined that Earth needed to be prepared. He barely survived the fight with his father, so he needed to get stronger if he was going to have any hope of taking on the empire.
Marko allowed the GDA to help with his training, making use of their resources, but when he discovered (like Mark) that they'd implanted a sound weapon in his head, Marko killed Cecil (and Donald, who tried to defend Cecil) because he fully believed that Cecil wasn't taking the real threat—the Viltrum Empire—seriously.
This betrayal in Marko's eyes led to a sharp turn for the worst, and he decided he needed to take over Earth himself to ready it for a defense against Viltrum.
When Conquest arrived a year later, Marko fought him one on one. The battle was more physically grueling than the battle against Nolan, but it only served to make him more determined... and to make him look like a bigger threat (and prize) to the viltrumites, who were now aware that the son of Nolan had killed both Nolan and Conquest. This made it seem like human/viltrumite hybrids had a higher potential than pure viltrumites. (Secretly, this made Thragg want to kill Marko even before meeting him, since it damaged his eugenicist world view).
By the time the viltrumites arrived a year after, Marko had essentially turned Earth into one giant war camp in preparation to fight the viltrumites, keeping his mother in a gilded cage. He wasn't trying to talk. With Thragg singled out as the leader, Marko gunned straight for him.
Marko almost died in this battle, but when he awoke from his coma, instead of waking to the viltrumites taking everything over, his mom was there... along with General Kregg. Kregg informed him that after the way Marko battled Thragg, the viltrumites were willing to follow him.
Marko was resistant to this at first, not wanting Viltrum rule over Earth, but Kregg explained that Earth, under Marko's rule, was already very much in line with Viltrum's ideals. This knowledge horrified Marko, who realized the gravity of what he'd become, but also that he'd killed his father for nothing.
So Marko was the unwilling emperor of Earth, wrapped up in grief over what he'd done. Still, he felt that Earth was his responsibility, so he did his best to lead both it and the viltrumites (he wasn't exactly good at it, considering his lack of education, and the fact that literally all he's thought about since his was twelve was combat training).
After becoming trapped in the main universe after killing Angstrom, Marko fell into a deeper depression with the guilt he feels about not being able to get home. He feels a responsibility to his home universe, but he can't get back. (Realistically, his universe is probably better off without him)
Now, he refuses to let himself enjoy the nice things about the main universe, knowing he's the one who wrecked his own world. He does however still consider himself a hero, and whether Mark likes it or not, Marko tends to follow him around whenever there's "work to be done". Marko also spends time at the GDA, because while he doesn't trust Cecil for a second, he also knows the GDA is his best bet for someone to create interdimensional travel so he can get home.
His interactions with the other variants are... not the best.
He gets along with Markus, since he doesn't see Markus as evil, since Markus is a product of his own culture—they trade stories with each other about growing up on Viltrum vs Earth, without the judgment a lot of the others have.
He has a lot in common with Sinister, but he sees Sinister as a mad dog, and pities him for the fact that Sinister literally couldn't be a good person if he tried (due to the inherent evil in him from his universe). Marko would kill Sinister to put him down, if he could, but Sinister is the stronger of the two.
If it weren't for Sinister, Marko would try to kill Lensless and Mohawk, since Marko sees them as degenerate shitheads. He hates accepting that he, Len, and Mohawk are all the same person.
she does have memory loss and does not remember her time as a human being but is chronically haunted by the feeling that this form is inherently wrong somehow.
also one of the only members to not be like. altered from scratch by nora. nora yoinked that traumatized girl after she maybe kinda blew up her previous science workplace on accident. not like she had anywhere else to go
