Very unfortunate that a huge portion of fans in the fandom wanna see Kakashi, Obito, Gai, Yamato and so many others re-enact The Bachelor... I mean, c'mon!!! Why do a whole host of people ONLY see value in a romantic relationship? Romance is very enjoyable, there's no denying that, BUT! Platonic/Ambiguous relationships are just as interesting and impactful as romantic ones... These characters would go to the ends of the Earth for the people they love platonically, and are fundamentally changed because of that devotion, so why???
It's like pretending that the color red is the only one that exists, while blatantly ignoring the rest of the rainbow!
Deeply co-dependent romantic relationships can be very, very interesting; and there's no shame at all in dissecting those dynamics or finding them entertaining. I guess it just gets a little tiring to only see THAT dynamic become popular in fandom spaces, y'know? 😕
(Apologies for my little ranty rant, I see this all too often as well, and it's very annoying! The friend I'd go to a party with isn't greater or lesser than the bud I go to the store with. The bonds we share may be different, but they're equally valuable to me!)

Each bond that people have are deeply important and do not out way any other in value or importance. I would go to bat for my husband, best friend, mother, all of my cousin’s. Like, none of these relationships i have could ever replace another so why should a character’s?
Ignoring the diffrences in relationships and the value each holds is honestly kind of boring and i try really hard in my writing not to forget that.
Obito is the one who helped Kakashi see that his father was not in the wrong. He was happy to stand up and tell Kakashi he was wrong, not as a higher ranked shinobi but as his team mate. Kakashi accepted Obito’s eye so he could see the world with it. See the future.
Gai is Kakashi’s longest friend. He has been there with Kakashi through everything. When Obito was out there playing dead trying to put an end ti the world, Gai was fighting to stay by Kakashi’s side. To pull him out if darkness and bacj into the light. Gai and Kakashi have each other’s backs litterally. In battle Kakashi and Obito fight side to side. Kakashi and Gai fight back to back. Gai is the only person Kakashi fights back to back with. They are each other’s supports and protectors.
Kakashi is Yamato’s light. It may seem strange but Kakashi reached out and pulled Yamato out of his darkness and gave him a hope that he hadn’t had before. Kakashi put Yamato over the hokage’s order’s and faced down all of Root for him. Yamato is the only one you see Kakashi tease. He never teases Obito, obito would get mad. He never teases Gai, Gai would get even. But Yamato? His sweet Kohai who refuses to stop calling him that? Bully’s him endlessly.
Each of Kakashi’s bond’s is unique and beautiful, and they should not be pitted against each other. Kakashi would not be the person he is without all three of those people and so many more.
Saying any of them is more important than the other’s is blatantly wrong. I ship Kakagai over all other ships at the end of the day but i’m not going to pretend that only Gai was important to Kakashi. Obito was the one who helped him see hope. Gai kept him in the light. Yamato was the one he could return all of that to.
There’s a reason why I’ve stepped out of a lot of “fandom” conversations and am a lot more selective about what I talk about. It’s not the creators. It’s the other fans and how they talk to one another. It exhausts me and as an abuse survivor, I know the codes. They might not get they’re talking in codes, but they are.
When they say: “If you hate it so much, go watch/read/play something else.”
I hear: “Go away.”
When they say: “Stop complaining.”
I hear: “Shut up.”
When they say: “You should be grateful.”
I hear: “Your feelings are invalid.”
When they say: “The creators worked really hard on this.”
I hear: “Their hard work outweighs the bad message and invalidates all criticism.”
When they say: “You don’t understand.”
I hear: “I didn’t pay attention to anything you said, b/c all I see is that you disagree with me and that hurts so I must shut you down.”
When they say: “You didn’t give it a chance.”
I hear: “My tastes are more important than your tastes and/or trauma.”
None of these words actually ever address the criticism that is being given itself. A lot of times, strong criticism of something is given out of deep love for the work or the genre. If you don’t feel something strong for it, you wouldn‘t be so gutted and upset when the potential is destroyed.

Ah, I stirred up a hornet’s nest, didn’t I, @agxntkeen? I really didn’t mean to. I mean, tbh, from my perspective there’s never been anything on-screen to say Red is anything but hetero, which is what I was actually commenting on -- the fact that the scene reads as Smokey vaguely hitting on Red and Red just letting him be Smokey and that it might stir up a theory about an avenue the show and the writers didn’t want so they cut it. Does that make sense? And look how the crowd went wild on a hashtagged #JustATheory #DontFreakOutPeople of a deleted scene!!! Wow. On the one hand, I want to delete my comment because I hate hate HATE conflict but on the other hand, I DID explain my thinking and people didn’t read it well enough, or at all. It’s a terrible game of telephone. *sigh* I LIKE talking theories to my Blacklist peeps. Nobody has to say I’m smoking something when I present a theory about why it might have been possible for the scene to have been cut. FCOL, it could’ve just been too long for the episode! But shouldn’t we be able to talk about this stuff?

Aaa I'll try to remember what I wrote. I think the gist of it was: "I really don't like how the DCEU fandom is absolutely unable to accept any criticism whatsoever about the movies, and they keep excusing any flaws and dismissing valid criticism. There was a post (that I can't find now) that brought up how the DCEU hasn't been doing a particularly good job in writing their female characters (in regards to the lack of character development Lois, Katana, Martha etc...) and it was a valid argument"

But instead of having a discussion about it the replies was just filled with people claiming there's nothing wrong with the writing and the whole "you're just on the bandwagon DC hate" "you just didn't understand the movie" thing. I see this type of reaction not just on Tumblr but also on YouTube and Twitter, regarding any sort of criticism towards the DCEU and I feel like the fandom is too caught up on "proving" their movies are good that they don't realize they can enjoy
(3/3) the movies and still be critical of it. Shouldn't we be asking for better content if what we're given can be improved? Instead of already accepting it as perfection? I wanted to make a post about my disappointment in the treatment of Katana and Mercy, two Asian women who should've had larger roles and better characterization but were instead left in the background, but I can't because of the atmosphere the fandom has created, and it really frustrates me.
that’s sucky that that was the reaction. not totally unexpected tbth because fandom/comics is often a very navel gazing place but still people could also not suck :-/
fwiw my rec is always to find your group of friends in whatever fandom and stick that that, and often good people know other good people, and you can branch out like that and eventually develop a pretty solid network. because those conversations are important (hello blog! lol...) and should be had.
