Nuckelaví’s willing submissiveness drove him a little bit batty, as in it lead him to being the power hungry, self-obsessed asshole he is now. Being small and soft and meek and offering himself/his services to others as a younger vampire to climb the social ladder twisted him and his poor gentle kind lil brain to hyper-masculinity and wanting to be the dominant figure in the room at all times and all that stuff, to avoid being that weak feeble little guy again.

To express that he obsessively exercises and puffs himself up with armour and muscles and weapons collections. His sex life his destructive. Socially, anyone lower/weaker than him in status or physicality is fair game for bullying and manipulating. He still bows to his superiors though depending on context, being submissive can leads to angry, scared, psychotic episodes based off the trauma of willingly accepting abuse, above all else. That’s it. That’s the explanation of why he’s such a bad person. Doesn’t excuse it at all, but that’s what got him there.

In contrast, when he was just a young wee lad vampire he was always very polite, soft spoken. Gentle, save for the being a vampire and needing to feed on people thing. He was a half decent person.
