When people complain about "unrealistic genetics" when artists make kid oc for ships, and the kid ends up with different coloured eyes and/or hair that match both parents in a fun mixed-up way. You do you if it's not your cup of tea, but leave everyone else alone when they're just trying to have some fun and make fun designs, damn, don't be the fun police.
Like, I dunno man, in a world where cis men can get pregnant and give birth to a child (especially when mpreg without it being a/b/o), I don't think bicolour eyes/hair is the most unrealistic part of the story here.

Oh we are NOT getting into this again. Mpreg might as well be a form of science fiction, there are many ways for someone to simply go "in this world, cis men have different anatomy", but genes? Genes are really fucking straightforward when it comes to inheritable traits (remember punnett squares? Anyone?). One can be fuzzed around as science fiction. The other is as plain as the nose on your face. OP reeks of the same vibes as the people who go "you complain about characters making OOC decisions but have no problem with a man in a robotic suit that can fly??". They are not the same, for fuck's sake.

I love how a commenter is snarking about OOP's point supposedly flying over my head (hi, I'm anon 1), when I LITERALLY refuted the point the OOP made. Genetic can be unrealistic. Fuck, it's EXTREMELY easy to make them look unrealistic even to a fifth-grader. Again, punnett squares. Kinda hard to suspend disbelief with that. You can't magic traits out of thin fucking air. It's a lot easier to suspend disbelief for undiscovered scientific shit, or when you're literally reinventing shit a la mpreg. Might I also point out that nowhere did I condone shitting on peoples' fun, if for some ungodly reason that's what this commenter has their knickers in a twist about. I reserve my right to laugh and complain IN MY OWN CORNER about patently unrealistic shit. If that's what OOP thinks is "being a fun police", lol, I don't get them.

Op here, mostly replying to anon 1, but calm down man. Admittedly, I shouldn't have brought up mpreg at the end there (did so in a jokey way since I hang out primarily in the BL side of fandoms, and that's where I see kid OCs). Genes and mpreg are obviously not the same, I guess I shouldn't have put them side by side like this, as it really makes it sound like they are on the same lvl of "realness" (dunno how to word it). I'll take it, that was my bad.
But I still stand on my original point.
I don't care that "genes are really fucking straightforward", people can still have fun and fuck around with character design without paying attention to how it actually works in real life. As I mentioned, you do you if you REALLY hate people not portraying it realistically, everyone has their own taste. But it doesn't mean you should complain about it to artists either and tell them they should never mix and match the couple's eyes/hair colours because "that's not how it works".
And if someone keeps saying no one should ever do it the unrealistic way, then yeah, they are the fun police in my eyes.

Let me get this straight....you can change how pregnancy works in a sci fi or fantasy setting...but not genetics for the sake of character design!?
ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS!?
You reek of "Actually, that would look great in a children's hospital because red has more positive connotations than negative" levels of "I think I'm smart, when in reality I can't see what's right in front of me, because I never learned critical thinking."

Definitely a color theory moment. There's Anon 1's going off about elementary bio class “realism” and insisting that there IS a difference, but not why that difference should even matter in child-of-ship fan art or concept art. You definitely do have a right to your own corner, Anon 1. Have a dunce cap while you're there.

Once again, I stand surprised that two regulars known for bogwater-level reading comprehension are yet again giving bogwater-level takes. Saying elementary genetics can be played with in fiction is like saying people can disobey elementary laws of physics because it's fiction. Maybe I should stop believing people can change lol.
