I just discovered a webnovel set in 1970s communist Hungary. Since my parents personally lived through that era I decided to read it and see how badly the author got things wrong. The first warning sign: the author is American (and not Hungarian-American). Second warning: they proudly declare they're a communist. My expectations were low but God it didn't even meet them. Everyone has plenty of food, no one's even heard of housing shortages, and the protagonist can go on holiday to Canada. Wost of all the novel got positive comments (from other Americans obviously).
