I'm really sick and tired of seeing this fandom fall into the same traps society sets up for women as a whole and on a daily basis.

Women should be capable, but not too capable. Women should be strong, but not Mary Sue's. Women should, should should.

Fuck this.

The only thing women "should" is NOT be props. NOT be fridged. NOT be plot devices. NOT be nothing but arm and eye candy for the men they stand beside, and the assumed men that are watching them.

The day I see THAT criticism about the women characters of my show is the day I'll feel a little more hopeful about the "feminist critique of female characters" on this show.

Give equal "feminist critique of male characters" or "feminist critique of poc characters" or "feminist critique of (no) queer characters" and maybe I'll believe that there is something beyond this sexist double standard of characters you don't like.

And seriously, no one said you couldn't like a character for whatever fucking reason other than, "I don't like [x]".

I'd love to write a fierce critique of why I have deep issues with the way the female characters are portrayed and what it means about the show.

But the discourse is poisoned by misogyny.

It's homophobic and if whoever sent this thinks that it's all about the absurdity of "McDanno", let me tell you something; I'm gay.

Does this surprise you, fandom? That there are gay women and men among you? It shouldn't, we've always been here and we've always written slash and we've always been a part of the greater project of fandom.

The link above depicts a horrible and discouraging state of affairs, because if that was sent by a Steve/Cath fan then you insult your own gay, bisexual, and queer shippers.

Do any of you know how alienating H50 fandom is for a queer girl these days? If it's not gay fetishisation from the slahsers, then it's homophobia from the het shippers.

And I'm looking at you, "McDanno" shippers, you do not make me feel welcome as a queer girl who ships Danny/Steve.

If your reaction to that gross homophobia is "McDanno forever" or "McDanno is an irrefutable truth" then you've missed the fucking point.

What you're doing is appropriating an actual issue that affects my life, other queer fans' life, in defence of a slash ship.

That post is homophobic. Period. It has fuck all to do with "McDanno", and everything to do with the fact that the person who made that post finds depictions of gay relationships mockable.

They finds me mockable.

Stop putting the ship (be it Danny/Steve or Cath/Steve) first and think about your fellow fangirls and fanboys.
