Even though I am a Fandom Old™️ I generally try and keep up to date with fandom terminology and slang

Unfortunately I do not let go of old terms in the same way because I am a Fandom Old™️ so at the weekend I was talking about the woobification of a character and was met with blank stares until I explained what a woobie is/was

Moopie: a previously likeable character, usually some kind of morally gray leaning-towards or an all-out hero, who is constantly written as doing dislikable, terrible, or occasionally villainous things specifically so that the pain of other characters can be seen as more interesting. This is different from a face heel turn in the same way that woobification is different from a heel face turn.

Moopification: the act or process by which a character is turned into a moopie.

Example of a moopie:

Kink Tomato is common fandom shorthand for the acronym YKINMKATO, or Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That's Okay. meaning, not everyone's going to like a certain kind of sexual content in fics and that doesn't make said content inherently Bad. because the acronym kind of looks like the word "tomato," it became...welll, Kink Tomato

I was talking about how some people interpret a certain character's gender presentation in a way that's not Wrong but that I personally disagree with, so I made that Characterization Tomato instead

I request a new slang word for our fandom slang vocabulary

Crunch / Crunchy

Noun / Adjective

For a show to be crunchy, it needs to frustrate you enough to make you gripe about it while simultaneously loving it.

It is a show you enjoy loudly, like how foodies enjoy chips loudly.

I have actually used crunchy for years. It was originally a pun on cringey.

Something crunchy is enjoyably cringey.

Perhaps an example is a show that gives you second-hand embarrassment (the groan enducing feeling you get when a character is doing something embarassing, dramatic, or nerve wracking on-screen, like asking their crush out or saying something really offensive unknowingly. It often stems from dramatic irony).

I vividly remember back in 2017 when I was new to fandom and knew nothing about fandom language

I was like “who tf is reader and why are people shipping them with everyone?! Who’s reader LEMON?!”

it made me so mad too 😭

I remember seeing art for “king dice x reader” and it was like some character with a dice head and their face was just one eye for and a book so I assumed it was someone’s oc 💀
