Digimon, I think? Even earlier, I did a lot of Neopets RP when I was young, which isn’t so different from fic.

I really like to read playful work. I like sincere character writing. I like fic that’s engaging in terms of the aesthetics of fic, especially when the author is into that too - there’s decades of this stuff, and dozens of subgroups and traditions and publications, and the playing field is all over the place. What makes something obviously parody vs Badfic sincere, and how obvious is it, and to whom, and how relevant to the story? What’s the relationship to the commercial property/characters in question? How intentional is an author with language and format and story conventions that reflect other fics or fandoms or IPs? When can you tell that just by reading something? What about the context in which it was posted? Isn’t it exciting when it says something new? Isn’t it fun when you read a fic that tries something you never would have thought of? What did Homestuck do to second-person POV? What is a fic?? Where are people learning to write and who are they writing with and what are their reasons for opting-in or opting-out of fic, OC publishing, or both? That sort of stuff is fun. I like to read a lot of different things, and the most interesting thing about fic is that it can be almost anything.
