So, I got derailed with some health issues toward the end of Flufftober, and then in a fit of frustration one day, deleted my tumblr which had the first 27 chapters on it. But they are all available on AO3 for anyone interested! Sorry for the long delay!
With Reggie safely home, even if a little battered and the worse for wear, Luke knew he should head back to the Patterson’s.They’d barely seen him since the disaster of a dance with Julie, and although they had tried to hide it, they were clearly nervous about something happening to him. He understood. Losing their first son to a terrible food poisoning accident must have been really awful. After a quick consultation with his dad about Caleb, Luke headed back to his room. His dad had given him a few more things to pack–like the seashell and amethyst bracelet that was charmed against hostile magic for Julie to wear, and for Flynn a tiny, perfect replica of a seahorse carved in watermelon tourmaline on a gold chain.
He wouldn’t be telling Flynn what it was. Flynn had just become the first human in over a hundred years to be awarded a Seahorse Knightship. Generally merfolk trained hard for decades and had to perform several feats of great daring and valor before they would earn their medallion and the Seahorse partner that accompanied it. Flynn was being awarded hers for Extraordinary and Heroic service to the Sea Shell throne for her rescue and protection of Luke and Julie at the dance. The medallion also concealed a whistle. When the time was right, Luke would explain to Flynn that if she ever needed aid within hearing distance of the ocean or ocean birds, she could blow the whistle and all the loyal subjects of the Sea King would be bound to aid her.
For himself, Luke had gotten a strict lecture about making deals with Witches who were not loyal subjects of the Sea Throne, an aquamarine earring that also hosted a protective charm, and an assurance from his dad that Caleb would be dealt with sooner, rather than later.
He swam up to the door of his room and opened it…only to find three very excited brothers. So excited that it seemed as if it was closer to thirty of them than three!
“Luke!” Reggie crowed. “You didn’t tell us that Mom figured out Julie was your soulmate. How wet is that? You have an actual soulmate. I’m almost jealous.”
