Hello! Asking because I heard about the "fantasy theory" but I'm not really sure what that means, aside from the fact that many people find it harmful. Do you have any good sources for us to look into and learn more about it?

It's been thoroughly debunked.

The fantasy theory, also known as sociocognitive, sociocultural, or iatrogenic models, asserts that CDDs are a result of fantasy-- roleplay, imagination, and therapists convincing their clients they're a system when it's not a real thing. It involves false and implanted memories and it's just generally... bad. It often goes so far as to say that the abuse itself was imagined.

Research has shown, consistently, that those with CDDs are no more fantasy or suggestion prone than other demographics. The backing of the trauma model is very strongly supported on nearly every single measure, with no conclusive evidence supporting the fantasy model.
