American Atheists Supporting The Pope on Iran More Than Catholics...

It's not even slightly more either... It's nearly double.

You know, it's been a while since I've gone on one of my Republicans are pure evil rants, but I guess I'm doing it again.

I may be saying things that are painfully obvious to most people, but I find them necessary to repeat anyway.

Because it feels like Republicans only like the most evil part of their religions. Like, when religious leaders are saying that God doesn't love gay people, and the churches are saying trans people are an abomination, or that a woman's place is to serve her husband... Republicans Christians eat that shit up!

When the Pope, the highest authority in Catholicism is saying "peace good, war bad," that's gone too far for Republican Catholics!

They're not sure if they can support the Pope on THAT!

And it's in this that I don't think blaming religion is completely fair. I don't think religion actually makes people evil. I think evil people gravitate towards religions that justify their evil.

If Jesus appeared tomorrow, proving his divinity by walking on water and raising the dead, and Jesus says "I actually love queer people of all kinds, me and the disciples were sort of a polycule back in the day, and trans women are just as valid as any other women..." majority of Republican Christians would turn on Jesus in a heartbeat.

This is also why I don't buy the idea that Trump just has a cult of personality that his followers got sucked into.

What Trump did was voice how American Republicans already felt. He promised to carry out the evil his voters wanted him to when no other Republican politicians would. He validated the evil that existed in their hearts.

You can tell it's not a cult of personality because if Trump changed his view on trans people and immigrants, his followers wouldn't be so eager to follow him. Trump won because of his evil. Not in spite of it.

And so here we are, with Trump starting a war and dropping bombs on schools, and a majority of Republicans cheering it on! And when the Pope opposes the war, you have atheists being twice as likely to side with the Pope over the actual Catholics!

I get the good intentions of people who say the point of a CDD is to hide your trauma. That reassuring others that their reasoning for not feeling like their trauma was enough to be a system is because it is being hidden from you.

But, for many, there isn't some major horrific thing being hidden. There isn't "more" we are unaware of. The sad truth is that society has influenced us on what counts as trauma or not. What counts as being "bad enough" to cause a trauma disorder.

Instead of telling people it's okay to feel unsure of their trauma because it's a defense mechanism I'd like to see support through understanding and education on why it IS enough as is.

So many people feel shame over their experiences. They have been taught a scraped knee isn't comparable to a broken leg. But a scraped knee IS bad. It is still a traumatic, painful, scary experience for a child.

I get wanting to expose people to how dissociation works and how it is SUPER common to fakeclaim ourselves. That is also a defense mechanism.

But let's support people and validate their trauma as they remember it, now. No "there's more". There is just what is there now, and that IS enough.

Trauma is trauma. Trauma cannot be ranked. There is no Trauma Olympics. Your validity does not hang on what you can or cannot remember.

Let's unlearn harmful ideas together.

Edit: I feel like this is being misinterpreted. We 100% support singlets participating in healthy discussion as long as they don't, yknow, speak over/for systems. We also 100% support systems masking as singlets being involved in system discussions. This post was specifically about actual non-systems involving themselves in origin/validity debates trying to "defend" certain systems. To us, it feels very similar to when someone makes a joke about a group and someone who doesn't belong to that group gets offended on their behalf even if people who ARE part of the group don't care at all. Also the post was kind of vaguely directed at a few specific people from a server we're in. We have trouble with wording things in a clear way sometimes, and we're sorry if we came across as rude or gatekeep-y.
