I know that there are some similar but I'd like to share how I imagine it going.
So basically Virgil and Roman are best friends and they are children and they have small crushes on each other. They start talking about what life would be like on the sea and they promise to each other they would stick with one another and wait for eachother. Same day some feared pirates come and raid a village in the kingdom. Virgil gets taken away by them and Roman doesn't. Many years pass and Roman still thinks of him and still wants to keep his promise of waiting for him. There is a ball (probably the time I should say that Roman is a prince) and he obviously goes and has his dramatic balcony scene then some pirates crash the ball...
Thus it continues..
I hope you liked this idea. I just love pirate aus and stuff like that. I know it's not too original but for this I got inspiration from tightrope from the greatest showman. :)
