Mini-review:
It's kinda crazy that my first movie of the year is already a candidate for my 2026 top ten. We've seen a lot of films about the afterlife and stuff like that, but the central idea for this one feels so refreshing and original, and it makes for one hell of a love triangle. The script also nails the mixture of comedy and drama; it made me laugh a lot, but also hit right where it hurts when it needed to. Obviously, it wouldn't work so well without its fantastic cast, all of whom share great chemistry. In particular, I loved Elizabeth Olsen's nuanced mannerisms and Da'Vine Joy Randolph's riotous line delivery. The production design is also a highlight, accentuating the artificial coziness of the setting. Anyway, Eternity is the kind of rom-com I'd like to see more of this year.
