Fandom Problem 4215:

Seeing people create character analysis for male villains and label it "a case study in toxic masculinity". But it's not even that. The villain is simply just an abusive entitled asshole. That's not exclusive to toxic masculinity or anything else. They're just a bad person.

A fandom problem I’m seeing a lot of lately is minors refusing to curate their online experience and avoid things that make them uncomfortable. You’re all absolutely allowed to be uncomfortable with something—adults are too. But that’s why tagging exists. It exists on tumblr and AO3, and it should honestly exist on every fandom majority space. If a ship makes me uncomfortable, I block the tag for it. If a user I follow consistently does not tag the ship that makes me uncomfortable, I unfollow them. It’s that simple. The block button also exists.

Please, for the love of God, learn to tailor your online experiences. Stop going into spaces that you know aren’t for you and demanding people change to cater to you personally. Absolutely ask someone to tag properly, if they’re not. But ultimately no one is obligated to leave a fandom simply because their presence makes you uncomfortable. People don’t just magically stop being fans of things as they grow older. I’m sure you’ll all learn that eventually.

Hating on certain fan content, not because I think it's bad or anything, but because you're sick of fans weaponizing it to trash on the source material.

There’s something that feels ironic about getting a whiny “I demand an update!” comment during the WGA strike. I guess entitled fans plague the whole gamut from fanfic authors who write for free and for fun to professionals who do this to make a living.

Not everything you dislike is a "trigger". Not everything that makes you uncomfortable "traumatized" you. Not everyone you don't get along with is "toxic" or "abusive". Stop watering down the meaning of serious words.

Tagging and content warnings are a nicety but if you're unwilling to meet people halfway and do your part to curate your online experience, if figuring out how to click a little X button is above your head, then grow a thicker skin or get off the internet. For your OWN health.

Fandom problem 4230:

Saw a post on twitter from a so called "critic" who has it out for one ship in particular in the show he "critiques" (i put those in quotes because this guy only skims bits and pieces of the show and complains about it). He has such a hate boner for the ship that every time the voice actors of that ship make a post about it he always jumps on it and tries to tell them "You're a professional voice actor. Stop talking about your ship and voice act."

As if the VAs aren't human and can't talk about things they love. It's annoying as shit.

for the last time creating content and engaging with content other people make are very different experiences and one is not a substitute for the other, i'm honestly tired of the "if it doesn't exist just make it" argument, it's not actually a solution to there being little content for the thing i'd like to read about, it's a problem that either can't be fixed or is helped by more people choosing to make said content, you simply cannot experience something new as a reader for the first time if you're also the writer it just doesn't work like that! and people complaining about there being little content for one thing isn't saying anyone is obligated to start doing so or that what they're making instead is bad just that it would be nice if more people did create what they liked because they'd appreciate reading it, is that so hard to get? like yes, i create the type of content i like because it's enjoyable to write about but the enjoyment i get out of writing and the enjoyment i get out of reading something (someone else wrote) are different things to me

as an aside i dislike how anyone who says "i wish there was more of xyz" always get shut down and the people shutting them down always act oddly defensive about it, as if some people putting out more xyz content would take anything away from them and as if the person wishing for there to be more than 3 fics for it in their fandom are going after them personally

In most fandoms I'm in I almost aways end up getting into the really "controversial" ships that cause a lot of discourse. It's always "ughh ew why would you ship THEM when you could ship this pure fluffy wholesome ship instead??"

Well, I finally get into a fandom where I LOVE the pure, fluffy, wholesome ship. Except, it seems the entire rest of the fandom has unanimously agreed that "well, they're ALRIGHT but they're just kinda boring :)" Fancontent for them is basically nonexistent.
