Final evaluation.
For my primary research I looked into books and poster designs which could help me with my project. For example one of the books I looked at was from the film World War Z which helped me gather my first ideas for my Survival book. For my secondary research I looked online at zombie books to get an idea of the style I was going for. I also looked at thing such as aeroplane safety leaflets and video game posters such as one produced by Fallout 4. I also looked at step-by-step guides to give me an idea for an illustration to maybe use in the book.
Once I got all my ideas from the research I made and the mind map I created, I then started to sketch what the cover of the book would look like. After a few drawings I was happy with the final which was handwritten as it made it look like it belonged to someone who survived the farms horrors. Another reason why I chose to go ahead with this is because it was very different from most things which are sold as merchandise at horror attractions.
For the book I wanted it look hand-made so I decided to design and create my own typeface to give it the effect like it was made in a rush by the survivor himself/herself. I wanted the book to be dark themed so the white text contrasted well against the dark background and made it easy to read. I also looked at the dates around Halloween to fit the dates in the book to make it look like the survivor was there around that time. Originally the book was supposed to be a guide but at a last minute decision i decided to make it a diary as it would give a better mood to the reader.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS6 and illustrator to create the typeface used in my book. The only problems I came across was the layout of the book and the making of it as it became very difficult to organise things which was relevant to farmaggedon and the book. I did not want to give up too much information of what to expect inside farmaggedon as it may impact someones experience there.
The only problems I encountered was actually being able to print the full outcome due to insufficient funds. The final outcome has been made on Adobe indesign CS6 and pages will be posted to my blog shortly.
This project helped me realise that time is important when designing for a live client. I personally think that I hit all the things I was going to create for this project and that my outcomes are successful. The only things I would of done differently is plan out the text which was to be placed on the pages a little sooner than I did. However it was a fun project for me and I would not mind doing something similar to this again in the future.
