Wiley - GodFather (2018) Wiley is a an English rapper I can't believe I haven't come across yet. This album really Impressed me. The album's intro immediately knocks you on your ass with it's machine gun spitting lyricism. It sets the bar and let's you know what you're about to get into. Track 2 "Been awhile" further explains he's not done a project in a little bit but basically his skill is still top notch; which is defenitly proven true by the track. Probably my favourite track is "Bar". I love the in your face braggy lyrics, the punchy lines, and the very bass focused synthisizer electronic layered production. In the track he used the word "bar" in so many different clever ways too. Everything about this song is what I love about rap. This album isn't just packed full of bangers though. He gets very personal on songs like "Certified"; but even when he seems to be pouring his heart out he's still showcasing his incredible vocabulary without missing a beat. Some minor gripes I have about the album are sometimes it gets a little too poppy on hooks. That's not a deal breaker or anything though because he always comes back with fire on the verses. Sometimes those poppy hooks even help set the tone or add an emotional trim to the song, Especially in the closing track. The only song I didn't really like on the project was "All The Time". Anyone who knows me knows that autotune really isn't my thing. He was doing so good until It got to this track. This track isn't horrible though. He makes a good comeback on the verses but it's still one of the weakest tracks on the project in my opinion. Overall This album is very good. I almost didn't even listen to this project because it looked like a sequel album from an artist I never heard of.. but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I love the bassy layered production, the heart pumping punchy bars, his story telling ability is top notch. What more can I say? This is one of my favourite projects of 2018 so far 8/10.
