Fast Pack Friday: 2015
So after a break over the holiday season, we're back. We've got a good stock of posts building up and a great year of reviews and other features planned. This is going to be a good year…
To kick it all off, I thought I'd get our Fast Pack Friday feature (too many f words?) back up and running. This is also a little preview of the Ranger Hoodie that we'll be releasing the Recon for early this year.
Make sure you're following us on Instagram to get the chance to see unique previews of stuff we've got coming up.
Fast Pack Friday
Fast Pack Friday is finally back after taking a break for the giveaway.
Here is a great collection of packs owned by Scott Pierce. Down in front we have a Foliage Green FAST Pack Litespeed next to a Pelican case. Behind that is a Black FAST Pack EDC. Each of these carrying devises are sporting stickers or patches from Prometheus Design Werx and MOTUS. There's another patch in there that is classified, so I won't mention that!
In the background are a collection of bags that I've been really interested in trying out, called the Exploro that a friend recommended to me. You can check them out here. I've seriously only heard the highest praise for these bags, so they are definitely worth a look.
Reengineered FAST Pack Litespeed (with restock info)
Last week, Triple Aught Design launched their 2014 revision of the awesomely popular Litespeed pack. One of the major things they've focus on is making the pack truly customisable by the owner. As you can see from the above deconstruction of the pack there are many components that are removable and configurable.
One of my favourite new features is that the Transporter Tail can now be mounted inside the pack, as well as outside. They have also announced a number of Litespeed (and presumably their revised EDC pack) compatible accessories that will be available to purchase in the future to allow you to configure this pack to your own preferences, including an admin insert featured on the Carryology must-read write up here. I'm really interested to see not only what these will be, but what their price point is. This will be really key to their success and the overall success of the pack.
Here at Pack Config we have very reliable intel, that these will be restocked again this Friday at the usual TAD drop time (around 0900 PST, 24 Oct). If I'm honest I wasn't completely blown away by this update, but after checking out the video below, I found myself nodding my head by the end, with a definitely realisation of what this pack could be customised to be! Check out the video that started to win me over, visit TAD's new info page for the Litespeed (below the video) to read about all the new changes and then get ready to order on Friday…

Fast Pack Friday – TAD Junkies
David Webb, recently posted up an easy and non-invasive modification of the top compression straps, but more on that later. Firstly, I'll let you admire the lovely MultiCam Fast Pack Litespeed. By keeping pouches to the left and right sides of the pack, it adds functionality but at the same time maintains a clean look.
By using a ITW Grimloc Carabiner on both shoulder straps near the point that they attach to the pack, the top compression straps are kept in place whilst they are unclipped, instead of swinging down onto the ground.

Fast Pack Friday – TAD Junkies
Here is Geoffrey Macellven's set up of a Fast Pack Litespeed with a good collection of matching pouches. I like the symmetry of the two BC4 pouches on the top row of webbing. This pack looks well used, which is also hinted at by the currently discontinued pouches.
The combination of the black ITW Grimloc clips, the black/OD green of the patches and the coyote/tan of the pack set up makes for a nicely coherent colour scheme.
My only suggested would be to move the Recon pouch of the fourth image or the RDDP of the third image either up or down so they're even, but that's only for the sake of OCD symmetry. They are probably more functional this way around.
Fast Pack Friday: Inspired
I've chosen a bunch of images from the Triple Aught Design site that include packs and have provoked me, but the real idea behind this post is to inspire an active lifestyle. This is as much a message to myself as it is to you all.
It's often easy to focus too heavily on our equipment rather than the actual activities we 'need' the gear for. My wife (who always brings brilliant and much needed perspective to my life) helped me realise how far my perspective had shifted from the lifestyle to the gear. I'm so grateful for how she sharpens me and I love her to bits because of it.
So to remind myself of this lesson and to pass on what I've learned, let me end with this:
Don't forget only real reason for buying outdoor gear, and get outdoors. I will endeavour to do the same.

Fast Pack Friday: Submission – Gabriel Hall
Here is a great submission from Gabriel Hall. I really like his patch layouts, the multiple use of iComms across the top webbing of the Fast Pack Litespeed. What particularly stands out is his two clever modifications. Firstly the folding up the Transporter Tail (shown best in the 2nd image) and also his top compression strap clip storage solution (3rd image).
It's also worth checking out the Haley Strategic Kleen Kanteen Carrier featured in the last two images. I've seen this before and thought it looked pretty cool. Here are the details of the configuration, including how he's folded up the tail:
There are 3 iComms and an OP1 on the front, a single magazine pouch for my iPhone on the left side. A FILO blades Halcron karambit on the right side.
The tail is rolled under by folding and clipping the top clips together (behind the face of the tail) then rolled down and the bottom clips used to fasten it down. The top pack clips are then fed down the side via the Molle for retention. I have used the top clip retention trick using the special clips from MilSpec Monkey.
Also, special guest: the Haley Strategic Kleen Kanteen carrier. Solid piece of work. Has room for a couple patches on a pouch that can fit some EDC or regular pocket item (i.e. gym trip: wallet, phone, headphones, gym pass, etc).
