Past Failures - Whole 30
After the last post about my anger toward sugar, I feel like I should acknowledge that I have attempted to completely detox from it and it did not work. When I decided to do Whole 30, I meant to catalog the whole ordeal. I did not, but I remember it, so here’s how it went:
I had read up on the Whole30 diet. It makes a fuck ton of sense. Don’t eat sugar. Eradicate anything that you could be allergic to - including gluten, soy, legumes, etc. etc. etc.
So I prepped. I decreased my soda and other candies. I made a list of recipes and, since I was the cook at that time, I made dinners that fit the bill. The rest of the family had the carbs, not me.
Every review says that the first 3-7 days are fucking terrible, but then it’s like the fog lifts and angels sing and you’re full of energy.
They’re fucking liars. (At least for me)

Why is fitness clothing for skinny people?
The all or nothing mentality
I see it more and more these days - the elimination diets. The idea that you can’t lose weight if you’re eating a particular food or food group.
I’ve also spoken at length about this with my nutritionist. She says that it’s bullshit.
Well, she didn’t say the word bullshit, but her face did.
In fact, there are numerous studies, that as long as you’re getting exercise, you can lose weight. I don’t know the unicorn who figured out how to lose 27 pounds eating Twinkies, Doritos, and Oreos, but I promise I’m not on a crusade to say that’s a great idea.
My point is that, with diets like Whole 30 (tried it) everywhere, we’re constantly being told that we have to eradicate either one item or an entire food group from our diets.
Bullshit.
I’m not saying I eat perfectly. I’m saying that taking all sugar out of someone’s diet isn’t actually necessary. Or at least, that’s what I hope to prove.
This feels like the bravest thing I’ve ever done
Yep, that’s me, in all my fat glory. Yay.
I was going to be braver, but I wasn’t. Sorry, no face. Not ready yet. Apparently I already have some people reading these and I’m just not there. Someday?
According to my measurements from yesterday and the scale today, here’s where I’m sitting:
Weight: 257.4 lbs
Chest: 47.5″
Waist: 43.25″
Hips: 55.5″
Thighs: 30.5″
Arms: 16″
A few observations:
When I graduated high school, I had a 29″ waist. My thigh is now bigger than my 18 year old self’s waist
My BMI is 50. FIFTY. Holy shit. Holy shit.
