Y’all think about how the song Mozart asks Salieri to play into the end of the world is in some ways about stars and childlike wonder, and it’s special to Mozart because in life he composed so many versions of it himself & thus he’s asking Salieri to play his own music, but also, as Salieri notes, in their time it was originally a love poem? That has many verses that are all sad and sweet for those two, but most notably a first that goes: Ah! Shall I tell you, Mama, what causes my torment? Ever since I saw Silvandre look at me so tenderly, my heart says every time: "Can we live without loving?"

Can we live without loving. Asked to a dying world where they were denied all vulnerability and love at any turn, and asked to be played by the dead man consigned against will and wish to an eternal torment of overwhelming hatred that is still not his own, whose truth remains the even now that he could not, in fact, live without loving him.
