Send me a ✧ and I'll introduce you to one of all the muses I ever had.
Faust glanced up from where he crouched, quietly and carefully readying his firearm. He couldn't see the monster, but he could smell it, and just barely, he could hear it. He wasn't a Knight of Eve, no - he wasn't 'blessed', or rather, cursed, with their ability to see the Shades. He'd been training his whole life to fight them, though. It wouldn't be a problem.
The approaching civilian, though? That was a problem. He bit back a cuss as he watched the hulking figure come ever nearer to the alleyway that he'd chosen as a battleground - hardly the best choice, but he hadn't had an abundance of options. He'd thought he could take care of this quickly...
Shit. Shit. As if it wasn't bad enough that he was blowing his cover to fight the Shade, now there would be a witness. He couldn't sit and let it devour the man, though. He could hear the whisper of it's feet along the ground, pounding toward easier prey than the black haired Munster that was currently giving it the fight of it's life. It would be on him in a second, and - fuck.
Spinning out of cover, Faust let two shots crack out into the night - as far as the approaching man could see, they were aimed directly at him. One at his head, and one at his chest. They never made it there, though. A squelch and a distinct and meaty SMACK told Faust that his bullets had hit home, in the back of the Shade's head, and hopefully, dead smack in it's heart.
Sure enough, a glimmering green outline began to spread out from the point of impact, smoky tendrils flailing as the Shade tried to dig the poisonous slugs out of it's flesh. The more it touched them, though, the more Faust could see it - and, so could the stranger.
"Get out of here!" The grizzled man roared at the interloper, moving steadily closer to the Shade. He wasn't about to let it kill the man, no, but that didn't mean he wanted him to stick around. "Go, gawdammit, 'fore it gets those out!"
Faust Belmont - 42, Munster, Renegade Agent for the Knights of EveFaust's mother was slaughtered by a Shade when he was young, setting his father on a path of vengeance. He taught his young son how to hear and smell the monsters that only the cursed Knights of Eve could see, and made himself and his child invaluable to the organization. He was hired and paired with a Knight named Mizu, with whom he reluctantly fell in love. They would never have a life together, though - as a Knight, Mizu was plagued by his curse and his disease, ultimately dying of his sickness and leaving Faust behind. Fed up with the organization who wanted him to take another partner, Faust fled Europe to America, eventually taking root in Texas nearly twenty years later. With an altered appearance, the name 'Sawyer Smith' and a heck of a lot of fraud & identity theft, Faust hides himself in 'plain sight'. He also, occasionally, hunts monsters in the night.
