3 fashion faux-pas men passed 30 can't afford anymore
3 fashion faux-pas men passed 30 can’t afford anymore
When you achieve a certain age a fashion faux-pas is right around the corner. And it has everything to do with your mental state. Are you that guy who feels and dresses way younger than the average guy in his inner circle ? Pay attention because this might save your street cred. We won’t bash you nor break you. But only elaborate on a few social bloopers we stumbled upon this week already and…

This has been bugging me all evening. My friend's daughter turned one this past week and she invited me to her birthday party today, which was being held jointly with another friend of hers I didn't know whose daughter also just turned one. I'd already gone in on a joint present with a group but I thought it would be nice to give my friend's daughter a token gift, and also give something for the other girl whose party it was, so I crocheted a couple of little toys.
Today at the party, when I gave the card and present over to the mother I didn't know, she seemed intensely embarrassed, barely said thank you, and put present and card into her child's pram unopened.
I mean the present wasn't some huge thing and I didn't expect her to gush, but I also didn't expect to feel as though it was positively unwelcome. Probably reading too much into it, but I really don't understand. I know life isn't all about me, but I don't want to go round unintentionally giving offence when I'm trying to be nice, you know?
Fashion Faux- pas.
Have you ever had a bad fashion day? Ever looked back at old photos and cringed at the clothes you once wore? Well but of course, we all have. It’s the tragic, yet inevitable part of growing up. Embarrassing yourself with wacky hairstyles, ridiculous shoes, and colours that are best suited to a clown at the circus. But would bad fashion choices be enough to turn you off a potential partner?
Here is a list of those “wtf” fashion faux-pas. My advice?.... just don’t.
Crocs.
Comfortable, practical, durable, whatever the excuse may be, these things are hideous. Try dress them up with charms all you like but you’re not fooling anyone. But the black ones you’ve bought for work can’t even be seen you say? Trust me, something that shameful can never be hidden. Anyone spotted in these is the true “walk-of shamers”, regardless of last night antics.
Heavy body warmer jackets & short sleeved t-shirts.
A look reserved for the bicep sporting college boys. For anyone looking out their college apartment window prepping for the day’s weather, this outfit is just confusing. Is it hot or is it cold outside, and are you really prepared for either? Pick a side boys, and leave the biceps for the nightclub, they’re too distracting for lectures.
Uggs and shorts.
This perpetrator can often be seen on a Starbucks date with “heavy body warmer & short sleeved t-shirt” guy. Again confusing those of us inside, looking out at the world. It looks like you looked out the window and panicked. Isn’t your body confused too? Do us a favour and whip on some tights. And get us a frappe while you’re at Starbucks.
Knicker lines.
The dreaded, yet sometimes unavoidable fashion faux-pas. Usually spotted via leggings or, even more unattractively in the line for taco chips at the end of a night out. Ask your nearest and dearest pal to give you the once over, only the meanest person would let you go out with that VPL. Or maybe your friend wanted a good chuckle.
Cargo Pants.
Nobody needs this amount of pockets. Nobody.
Make up lines.
More of a beauty faux-pas, but a faux-pas nonetheless. White face, orange neck or vice-versa, not matching neck to face looks absolutely ridiculous. Believe me, everyone noticed. All girls are guilty of it now and then, that’s excusable, but consistent ridiculousness is not allowed. If you can’t colour inside the lines, don’t colour at all.
Tacksuits tucked into socks.
Particularly white sport socks. You are not Damo from Damo and Iver, although this look is often spotted on boys possessing names with o’s at the end. Let’s all think about this logically. Farmers tuck pants into their wellies to keep them clean. Townies are not keeping anything clean. Your socks are going to get dirty. Stop it.
-Awny.

Listen to “Vaults” “Premonitions”
I made a big suburban faux-pas. When I first started blogging, I really didn’t know what I was doing or really what I expected to gain from it. What I did know is that I expected it to help me take my mind off of a lot of physical and emotional pain. Indeed it has, but since…

80% of people surveyed committed one of two fashion faux-pas
Fashion isn’t what you see walking the streets of New York or LA. Every person has their own personal style that makes you, well, you.
However – there are certain things that should be avoided.
That’s why we asked what’s the worst fashion faux-pas you’re willing to admit you’ve committed – and the results were pretty surprising.
41% admitted to wearing socks with sandals. If you recall our last survey, 67% of people stated that wearing socks with sandals was a deal breaker when on a first date. So if you’re still committing this fashion faux-pas, may we remind you that not only is this hurting your style, but potentially your dating life as well.
29% of people surveyed admitted to wearing black shoes with a brown belt or vice-versa. (C’mon, give the guys a break. We all committed that at some point in our high-school career.
This means 80% of you reading this committed one of these two fashion faux-pas – possibly both. (Atleast you’re in good company.)
24% admitted to either wearing shoulder pads or wore a scrunchie. One woman contacted us and said she used to tuck her t-shirt into her jeans. If that’s the worst thing you’ve committed – consider yourself lucky!
If you weren’t able to participate in this survey – it’s not too late to tell us what the worst fashion faux-pas you’ve created. Simply tweet us or post to our Facebook timeline.
Want to love what you buy? Create your very own Cobrain. It personalizes the millions of apparel products across 300 retailers. It’s like shopping at 300 stores simultaneously finding the things you’ll love the most. (To our knowledge, there are no shoulder pads or scrunchies. However – there are black shoes, brown belts, socks, and sandals. We just don’t suggest you mesh them together.)
What is the worst fashion faux-pas you’re willing to admit you’ve committed?

67% of people find wearing socks with sandals to be a fashion deal breaker
You've been there before. You just met a guy. Everything had been going so well. You text all day, you have so much in common. And then you meet.
BAM! Deal breaker!
Whether you're married, in a relationship, or single - we all have (or had) dating deal breakers.
So we were curious and asked -
When on a first date with a guy - what is your fashion faux-pas deal breaker?
67% said wearing socks with sandals is a fashion faux-pas deal breaker.
According to Wikipedia - it is suggested that the ancient Romans were the first to start this fashion trend. So guys - if you're still wearing this combo of apparel - may we remind you this fashion trend is over 2,000 years old. Not to mention hindering your dating life.
If you're guilty as charged - we'd like to help you by recommending a few alternatives to help you on your next date. These sandals are getting plenty of raves and will likely impress on your next date.
This pair of Olukai 'Ohana' leather flip flops is getting close to being a top raved item with the guys who use our site. No socks are required for this pair - and...may we give you a gentle reminder to wear a brown belt, not black, with this pair.
Another alternative is this pair of Rainbow '301Alts' sandals. This pair is also getting plenty of raves and trending fast - we think because it can be integrated into many outings - including a first date.
So fellas - before you go out on a first date - actually, consider this a general rule for all occasions - leave the socks off when wearing sandals or flip flops. Perhaps this fashion trend was the real reason for the fall of the Roman empire.
