landoscar, second meetings for a writing prompt
"Are you sure you want to go through with the procedure? You will lose all your memories of him and will never be able to love him again if you do."
"I'm sure, there's no way he loves me back, and I'm not going to just die."
"You seem familiar."
Lando's words gave Oscar hope. But as the seconds passed without Lando elaborating his heart started to fall. They had bumped into each other just a few feet away from Oscar's new apartment door.
"Oh, I know! You just moved in down the hall, right?"
Oscar wanted to cry, he knew it was stupid to stay in the same building as Lando. Worse to hope that they would see each other, and it would all just magically come back if they talked. He didn't understand how over three years could just be erased in the blink of an eye. One day he and Lando were best friends, and then suddenly Lando was sick and had a procedure and then completely forgot him. And everyone refused to give Oscar any details on what actually had been wrong with Lando, just saying the amnesia was a side effect.
Instead of giving in to his emotions, Oscar tried his best to continue the conversation normally. "Yeah, apartment 4D is me now." I used to live in apartment 4B, with you, he doesn't say.
"Name's Lando, can't remember if I introduced myself last time we met."
"I'm Oscar," but you should already know that.
"Sorry, I would love to chat, but I'm meeting up with some of my mates in a few so I really should go. Nice seeing you again, hopefully I remember your name next time." With that, Lando turned and walked to the entrance of the apartment complex, leaving Oscar where he was standing outside his door.
Seeing Lando shouldn't still have as much of an effect Oscar. But the choking feeling in Oscar's throat intensified, from just wanting to cry until it transformed into something he was becoming too familiar with. He made his way into his bathroom and to the toilet, bending over just as the petals started to fall from his mouth.
