agreed. i get that some people don't like the word sickie but to me it's always just been analogous to "the one who is sick." more a role descriptor than a nickname. and i'm lmao at the idea that vagueposting is somehow not picking on someone? blocking that person cuz yikes, just cuz you don't @ someone doesn't mean it's not clearly about them 😬
That's the word I was missing this morning, role descriptor. That's all the word is.
Kinda makes me sad to see how many people can be so flip floppy on what the support as soon as someone "calls it out" like "oh no, I don't wanna be seen as cringe, agree xyz is cringe!"
"Sickie" is rarely used in the actual narrative or by someone in the story. It's almost always used on prompt or discussion posts to assign the "sick role" to a character; rather than typing out "sick character" or "sick!character". So to me it's pretty obvious "sickie/ee" isn't meant to be an infantilizing term, at least how it was used in that and most posts.
And again I reiterate what I said in my tags, it's fine if the word bothers you or turns you off. There's certain ways people word things all the time that completely turns me off in a fic. Ex. "their tongues wrestled for dominance" I think it's super dumb and overused and it immediately makes me click off a fic. But its not... wrong for someone to use this phrase. I just personally don't like it. And that's the root of what bugged me about the post, sort of treating their opinion as a fact or a way to say the other person is being hypocritical/wrong/stupid when they're not since it's just how you personally associate the word.
Vagueposting can absolutely be a form of picking on someone or making fun of someone, by not using @'s or specific names you're just hoping the op doesn't find your post. Kind of similar to how another notorious blog in this community enjoys making fun of others for have different preferences (which is pretty much. You know. Bullying?)
It's super dumb, I'm glad most the people who seemed to agree and be all "yeah big cringe" are already people I don't follow. A shame I apparently was following op too, I wouldn't have minded having a discussion. But I just got insta blocked as soon as they replied as if that makes them win the discussion. So I couldn't even see what the responded with. Oh well, I suppose no loss in the end.
