“What’s darker than shadow and stronger than death?” it hissed.

Then the ker-thunk of a blade sinking into flesh, and a silver blade protruded from its guts, gleaming with oily black sludge. “Not you, bitch,” Feihong said, as the last vestiges of shadow travel burned away from her, a gentle mockery of the creature’s thick blood writhing in the light. A spare, elegant movement of her wrist twisted the blade, corkscrewing out of the creature’s body with the precision of a scalpel, though much larger. “Stupid talky fuckers, aren’t they,” Feihong added conversationally, kicking the body off her sword the rest of the way.
