asparklethatisblue replied to your post “What do you think about the game of thrones showrunners changing minor characters ethnicities for the sake of "progress" IDK I feel quite weirded out about the decision of making Areo Hotah a black man, it just feels flat somehow”
I usually headcanoned Areo as mixed race, and nearly all of the Dornish already casted seem so pale? I'm glad about there being more POC but nearly all of them being in serving roles just feels wrong as well.
The fanart of Areo almost always has him as white, so I can see why some people might not have ever considered him a POC -- but if you check the text, there is literally no description of his skin color ever, only his hair (which was dark and has turned white). And unlike the Lysene, we have no description of the typical appearance of Norvoshi, so honestly, even the most "purist"/racist reader has no leg to stand on.
At least 2 out of 3 Sand Snakes cast are WOC. Light-skinned, but, well. Still hoping for Sarella/Alleras if they do Sam's Citadel plotline (they'd better). And lord am I still so ecstatic about Alexander Siddig.

Yeah, white-washing all over the place. The darkest actors hired? A smuggler, a butler-bodyguard, tons of slaves. How progressive!
Thank goodness for Missandei and Grey Worm, you know? They too are playing servants (and ex-slaves to boot), but at least they're well-developed characters who have their own story now. Anyone who complains that their romance is "distracting" or "pointless" can go blow.
(I admit to having disliked Missandei's age-up, because I truly preferred the mother-daughter relationship she and Dany had in the books, and I'm still sure a primary reason for the age up was to give her nude scenes, but nevertheless, the show has done fairly well with her considering.)
southagermican replied to your post “What do you think about...”
And YES, hepatic-cirrhosis-looking, repulsively urine-smelling, morbidly-obese-as-three-Illyrio-Mopatis Yezzan zo Qaggaz is slim and attractive, that's not as shocking as casting Aero Hotah as a black man. I can't even LOL!
Straight up, Yezzan is an acid test. Someone complains about Areo but doesn't say boo about Yezzan? You know what they are. You know.
felicitymay replied to your post “do you reckon that arianne is actually going to be cut from the show or do you think that tumblr is just overreacting again”
honestly, since they have Trystane as the heir, if she /is/ in it how the heck are they going to explain that one? I'm thinking any possible explanation would feel really unsatisfactory / kinda bullshit.
sigh... If Arianne is cast but Trystane is the heir, it's probably through GoT throwing out any concept of Dorne having absolute primogeniture. Which is, yes, unsatisfactory and bullshit, and would make the Queenmaker plot make no sense, but consistency is not their strong suit. But not an unexpected event, considering they already eliminated female Dornish leaders in both the group that came to King's Landing and having Oberyn talk about his father instead of his mother. But it's pure crap, and honestly I'm not sure if it would be better to have Arianne with a bullshit travesty of Dornish customs or not to have her at all. :P

Hey there! So I read Marie-Louise Sjoestedt's Gods and Heroes of the Celts the other day, and it only contained a few lines about Flidais but I simply have NOT been able to get her off my mind since. I was wondering if you'd been able to find anything else about her out there that you would recommend? I was a tad nervous to just go a-googling, haha, and I know you run the e-shrine for her.
Sorry for the delay in response! It has been an absolutely insane few weeks. Please don’t hate me! Life has just been insane. I am so so sorry for the extreme delay, felicitymay!
But isn’t it funny how that works! I was the same way! I’d felt a presence/feeling/something for quite a while, but the second I saw Her name, I just knew.
But to answer your question, what records we have of Flidais is pretty sparse, especially when compared to deities like Brighid, Lugh, etc. There are a few tales that involve Her to some degree, however She is rarely the focus of the tale.
In “Lebor Gabala Erenn” (The Book of Invasions), which details how the different tribes of beings came to Ireland (though it has a Christian overlay and starts with the sons of Noah and how it was their descendants that populated the world), Flidais is literally mentioned once and it’s really only to tell us the names of Her 4 kids.
In “Conchobair maic Nessa”, She (again) is only mentioned once. Granted, some people attach a certain level of significance to this mention because it talks about Fergus mac Róig and his typical need for 7 of many things to satisfy him, including 7 women to satisfy his sexual appetite unless he slept with Flidais. As with most Gaelic deities, Flidais isn’t simply a goddess of “x,” rather a multi-fold person with multiple dimensions. But this is where the idea of Flidais as a goddess of sexuality and power comes from. Her relationship with Fergus is further elaborated on in, to some degree, “The Driving of the Cattle of Flidais.”
In “The Driving of the Cattle of Flidais,” we also see Her connection to domestic animals like cows. Many people, including myself, typically think more of Her connections to wildlife and deer from the mention of Her son and his ability to milk doe as if they were cows, a gift he got from his mother in The Fitness of Names. They are mentioned together and shows a link, in my opinion anyway, of Her connection to animals both domestic and wild, as well as fertility to some degree. This is backed up for me by Her sexual prowess, showing both sides of pleasure and responsibility, though those last points definitely fall into UPG territory.
I really hope this was helpful and, again, I’m very sorry for the super late answer. I feel like I rambled a bit because I’m so tired, but I didn’t wanna wait to answer any longer. I love questions, so always feel free to drop me an ask. Hopefully I’ll be in a better place in a few weeks once I get all this stuff with my mom situated. And if this didn’t cover something, just lemme know!

seeing as this is in relation to our parents it sounds like you're calling dad a giant
NOTE: I mean fighting actual giants from Beyond the Wall n shit. and not our dad. Our dad is cool, I don't actually want to fight him.
