So I sometimes see Warriors fans calling female cats Mollys instead of she-cats and calling it the correct term, but I recently heard that Molly is actually the word for a fixed female cat, which the majority of Warriors characters definitely aren’t. However I’m having some trouble tracking down a source for this information, so I figured I’d ask the resident cat genetics guy.

generally, "molly" is the term for a fixed female cat & "queen" is the term for an intact female cat.

however, in warriors, "queen" already refers to a specific role in the clan, so using that would be confusing.

you can, even in non-warriors spaces, refer to all female cats as "mollies" and be correct. the only real place (to my knowledge) where the molly/queen distinction is important is in breeding circles, or other contexts wherein it's crucial to differentiate. if it doesn't really matter (such as referring to your pet, a random stray, a character with an anthropomorphized sense of gender identity, etc) "molly" works fine as a blanket term :3

Do you happen to remember seeing a post somewhat recently about a sapient machine race? The artist mentioned that the machine’s creators had died off and that the machines would add new parts to themselves as they needed. One of the characters used to be a missile launcher. I really want to look at it again but I can’t find it for the life of me. I see you in the likes of most spec bio posts, so I figured there’s a good chance you’d probably seen it.

I think I just caught an ant colony in the middle of moving their nest! I like to go out look at bugs at night sometimes and tonight I was watching a colony take apart a dead lizard I had left in the garden for them, and was following their trails when I noticed that some of them were reflecting unusually pale in my flashlight, and then I realized they were carrying their larvae! I looked behind our garbage can and saw this massive pile of larvae/pupae/eggs! (not sure exactly which since they’re very small, so I couldn’t get a very close look at them, and I didn’t want to accidentally stick my nose into a spider web) I think I even saw one or two queens! I suspect the reason they left might be because I refilled my rabbit’s water earlier that night and had dumped the old water in the leaf litter and maybe that disturbed them, the area where most of them were gathered was still damp. I didn’t get any pictures since it’s dark and the ants are too small to show up well on a phone camera, but I just wanted to share!

I am imagining them despite the lack of photos! Very nice. I would have stayed to watch :)

This might be a bit of a hot take, but I feel like bug people online don’t really give as much love to butterflies as much as moths. Like fluffy moth art and ocs are a dime a dozen but butterflies don’t really get that focus. I think it’s a combination of this particular demographic focusing on giving love to less popular animals and moths being fluffier and having more “cute” potential. I kinda feel like butterflies tend to get treated less as animals and more like symbols, like flowers almost, and get lumped into general “sweet” and “precious” imagery, which is a shame because there’s a lot to love about butterflies. Does this make any sense?

I think butterflies are sort of like honeybees and ladybugs in that they get a lot of mainstream attention because they're pretty little garden friends, but people who know a bit more about bugs tend to realize that moths come in a stunning array of shapes and colors that are, for some, more exciting than the butterfly species we see in pop culture commonly. So I understand people being into moths over butterflies. But you're right, there is a lot to love about butterflies and there are a ton of beautiful and interesting species that don't get very much attention.

How’s Fenchurch doing in Bad Ending?

BOA sentient machine characters only exist when the BOA RWS modifier is in place. Clarence, Fenchurch, Javier, Phobos & Deimos, Sweetpea, and The River Jordan aren’t sentient in base Optimistic or Bad Ending.

In BOA RWS Bad Ending:

Clarence nervously follows world news and the concerning strides in colic satellite tech. He is disturbed by some of the minimized and mechanically augmented bodies to come out subtractive science, but follows it out of a personal duty to understand. Before the Boytoy can volunteer for long, the war approaches, Boytoy gets drafted, and the miniature railway is closed indefinitely with hopes to reopen. Clarence is put into storage, entering torpor until peace breaks again.

Fenchurch is in active duty, serving as any F-35 would. Eventually she starts fighting alongside other BOAtic sentient planes that don’t have cockpit windows, yet still have pilots. Multiple. Where are they?

Javier (whom I am retconning to be an original diesel design) still toils away in Mexico, though under a Balanceaban-less GRPO. He is not as well maintained or “loved” for lack of a better word. He’s very busy.

Phobos runs on a high speed intercity line as usual. They’re constructed later than in Optimistic. They hear people talk about what’s going on outside of Mexico. Not much that they can do about it, they choose not to worry.

Deimos is in active duty. They get the closest look at home and enemy colic tech during their scouting missions. They’re morbidly fascinated.

Sweetpea does not exist in BOA Bad Ending. She exists as a gift from a coronal engineering guild to the human base on Mars. Crowns never get this close to humanity in Bad Ending, figuratively and literally.

The River Jordan is owned by one nation in the fractured territories of mid-Bad Ending Mars. He is heavily armored and dislikes the state of his world. Still, he serves his owners, knowing he is the least vulnerable of all of them.
