For the 50 character random ask would it be okay if you answered numbers 1,2,9,16 and 48? with Nicholas Cox as the character :0?
Hello anon! Thanks for the ask.
1. Canon I outright reject: That he left the newspaper clipping of his dad with the note in the trophy case, because let’s face it—that’s embarrassing 😳 (Note: I have not read Fence Challengers: Long Shot please do not spoil me, I merely saw a teaser).
2. A canon or headcanon hill I will die on: That Nicholas actually runs cold. The dorms just have really good heating compared to at home.
9. Scene that first made me love (or hate) the character: I’m going to be honest, I actually don’t remember. I’d have to do a reread sometime in the future to properly answer that.
16. Deepest darkest secret they won’t even admit to themselves: The idea that Robert might actually not be a good father. Nicholas keeps dreaming of following in his footsteps and making him proud, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that his father slept with and got two different women pregnant around the same time. From what I can gather, Jesse is a school year above Nicholas, which implies that he was born first and either:
a) His father committed infidelity during his marriage to his pregnant wife (Most common theory).
b) Robert and Jesse’s mom were separated and during that time Robert slept with Nicholas’ mother before returning to his wife after the separation (sort of a grey zone of whether that counts as infidelity).
c) Robert had a shotgun marriage and Jesse’s mom happened to be the one to tell him that she was pregnant first (in which case I don’t think he’s a bad father, just a dude with poor condom luck. I have nothing against those that sleep with multiple people so long as it’s not during a committed relationship).
d) Nicholas’ mother was in a relationship with Robert, they broke up, had a one night stand somewhere down the line, and by the time she went to tell Robert she was expecting, she found out he was in a relationship with another woman and kept the pregnancy to herself.
So either Robert is a man with loose morals or as they say, “life just happens.” He seems to get the short end of the stick if that’s the case. Robert seems to be a good father to Jesse though, so Nicholas puts the thought inside a box and tucks it under his heart where he won’t look at it.
48. Scariest moment of their life: When a dog bit him as a child. I have a headcanon that Nicholas is afraid of dogs. It was purely for a vague wip concept that I had, and it slowly became more or less canon to me in the months since having that idea.
Send me a character and a number!
