The Danish House of Glücksburg is one that goes deep down in history. They are intertwined with many other monarchies from back in the day up to the present.
I have long observed the physical resemblance between these two consorts, both descendants of Christian IX of Denmark, but their similarities lie beyond that.
On the right is the Empress Maria Feodorovna, Princess Dagmar, daughter of Christian IX himself. She married the Tsar Alexander III and is the mother of Russia’s last Tsar Nicholas II. Her elder sister, to whom she was close with, would marry the Prince of Wales and would then be known as Queen Alexandra of the UK.
On the left is Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, daughter of Frederik IX of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden. She married Constantine II, the last King of the Hellenes.
Both women belong to a now-defunct monarchy and empire, deposed by revolutions within their realm. Imperial Russia would be replaced by a socialist government and Greece would become a republic.
