2020 - THE WINTER THAT STAYED . Supermodel FERNANDO CABRAL, one of the most brilliant, enigmatic and quietly thought-provoking models in the Industry, dropped one of the most brilliant, enigmatic and quietly throught-provoking covers of 2020 when ELLE hit the shelves in Romania this month. The @TommyHilfiger photo spread with digital social media influencer @NooNoouri is pure cultural fire. Fernando, younger of the storied Cabral brothers, delivered his trademark chill and otherworldly ease in this interspecies shoot. The color palette and the sheer icy coolness of the pics made it a MUST to close out my series of “The Winter That Stayed” TuTchT joints. . FERNANDO CABRAL THROWBACK . Staying with the green theme to welcome Spring, here’s a piece I’ve revisited before. Placed in a forested thicket to accentuate this runway shot showing the camo fit supermodel Fernando Cabral donned for the Mark McNairy S/S15 show, his cat-like stealth & grace and visual magnatism, the intended accentuatee inevitably became the accentuator. . I also love the multilayered symbolism that emerges, at least in my mind from this image, as I’ve spent the better part of two years researching and writing the pilot episode of “Roofless,” a musical miniseries which begins its supernatural journey amongst a group of teenaged soldiers caught up in the South Sudanese War. There is something gripping about the marriage of Fernando’s purposed, determined gait through an undergrowth of tangled obstacles matched by his gaze that is simultaneously steely-eyed but equally world-weary and full-to-the-brim of disturbing images of cruelty and untimely death. . TuTchT COMICS CASTING - Fernando Cabral as CLOAK (“Cloak and Dagger”) . This tribute is long overdue. I first saw supermodel Fernando Cabral in a 2010 H&M shoot with his brother, model/footwear designer Armando Cabral and I’ve been fascinated by his enigmatic, uniquely-sculpted, incredibly stunning face ever since. I’ve remained a locked-in fan & supporter. The venerated Cabral brothers top my list of models I respect - across the board, and I’m not alone. The word that always follows the mention of Fernando & Armando Cabral is “classy.” . Fernando has held superhero status in my mind for a decade now, but I’ve never included him in the series because I hadn’t found an appropriate character match yet. I found it! The melancholic, brooding, dark-force-under-control, disciplined stillness of Tyrone Johnson’s “Cloak” was the perfect fit. Like Cloak, Fernando’s powers resulted from an industrial explosion of an abundant mysterious energy source. In this case it was the modeling industry and the mysterious abundant energy emanated from Mr. Cabral’s himself. Tyrone powerful cloak, (which belonged first to his brother…yeah) contains,the powerful Darkforce that swirls just below the surface of this very deep young man. In all my ComicsCasting portraits, I don’t think I’ve had a more successful visual metaphor for the emotionally-loaded subject matter. This speaks, again, to Fernando’s considerable skills! . Fernando’s work history is packed full of a Who’s Who of designers, iconic Fashion names, and top brands. With literally hundreds of gigs under his belt, he’s everywhere. Currently he’s the face of H&M Fall Advertising and on the cover of Men’s Health (Sept Style Guide) .—- He is on model.com's current list of top money makers (one of only 5 male models of color on the list.)
