Caught Up
shinra-secretary:
I guess we've both been caught up with work lately - hope you're not pushing yourself too hard.
feyfallen:
“I’m trying to re-write human DNA to make us homo sapiens more compassionate,” he said, looking at the paper he was proofing, “however, yes I know that is impos….oh, you are not Hojo. Hello Aj, yes, I do seem caught up in my work.” He pushed the paper away and smiled.
“How are you?”
She cast a glance over the papers - trying to change DNA - she could never accuse him of being pessimistic at least. Aj smiled, shaking her head, "Nope, definitely not Professor Hojo," things had been quiet since Travis had appeared, she'd expected some kind of drama, but the lull was welcome, she still felt guilty about Travis' visit, "I'm fine - you look a little stressed though,"
Never Let Me Go || feyfallen
Between coming home late with a blood-stained, semi conscious man and suddenly calling with the instruction to lock the door and not answer it to anyone, Aj wouldn't blame the poor teenager for running a mile the next time she needed a childminder. Although she had been wary for the days following her introduction to Fey, the girl had always ventured back, almost too curious for her own good.
Thankfully Travis hadn't gone straight to her apartment; she wasn't sure where her ex was staying in Midgar, but he was the type of person who always seemed to land on his feet, regardless of the situation; he wasn't sleeping rough and he wasn't suffering because of his stubborn possessive streak.
Aj glanced around her house - her home; she had hated it at first, it had stood testament to everything she had abandoned in Kalm, but not anymore. It was proof that she could stand on her own two feet; proof that she was more than capable of looking after Jase herself and proof that she didn't need Travis. That had been a constant reasoning of his. Anytime they'd fought or she'd threatened to leave, he had reverted back to how he'd helped her after the death of her parents and how he had been the one to support her all along.
But she'd proved him wrong. She had her own highly paid job. Her own home. Her own life and a caring partner ... Fey was everything Travis wasn't and more. She hated knowing that she'd dragged him into her own personal wars, but as selfish as it may sound, she took comfort in knowing she had someone to seek solace in.
She smiled as she stood over sofa, pulling the blanket further up on her sleeping son; he was happier since they'd left Kalm. He still asked about his Dad and questioned why they all didn't live in the same house anymore, but she had managed to fob him off with work related excuse all along.
That had to stop now. She had to be as honest as she could be without confusing the young boy. Then she needed to speak to Travis. She couldn't run away anymore, and things would only get worse if they didn't come to an agreement.
Aj lowered herself onto the other end of the sofa, glancing up as she met Fey's gaze; his opinion was one she valued far above others. He had refused to blame her for dragging him into this mess, willingly taking his own share of the drama, "Be honest with me - if I stop Jase from seeing his Dad for good, is he going to hate me for it when he's older?"
Early Mornings II feyfallen
"Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom ... Mom," an eyelid cracked open as something began bouncing on the mattress next to her, neon red digits burned the time into head, half-six. Aj groaned as she rolled over in the bed, "Jase ... why are you awake, it's still early."
An indignant glare and a small huff was her morning greeting as the young boy sat back on the end of her bed, arms crossed over his chest. The mother sighed as she threw her duvet back, smiling despite the early hour, "Okay, you win - I'm up. Breakfast?"
Jase nodded his head, smiling as he raced for the door. The three-year-old stopped still has he clung onto the door handle of her bedroom door, "What about the man? Does he want breakfast too?"
Aj froze as she pulled on an old hooded jumper, mind immediately jumping to her ex - but Jase would have called him Daddy, not the man. She frowned, tucking her hair behind her ear as she picked Jase up, eyes scanning the hall outside, "What man?"
The young boy shrugged, playing with the strings of her hooded top, he didn't know who he was. All he wanted to know was when the man would move; his favourite morning cartoons were on and the man was on his seat on the sofa...
"The man with the funny coat."
"Fey!"
Working Late?
feyfallen:
He heard her voice but couldn't even look up to smile at her.
"Just sleep-deprived today," he said into his desk. He swallowed, hoping she couldn't see the stains on and around him; judging by her voice, she was on his right side. Maybe she wouldn't see it, and leave him be. This wasn't her problem.
"You want to come back later?" he said weakly, feeling himself slipping again, "I'm sure I'd be more lively then..."

Aj frowned at his muffled voice. Surely there were more comfortable places around for someone to take a nap. Everyone else had gone home or were working away at their own terminals, lost in their work and research.
A dark, dried stain on the arm of his lab coat caught her attention - Aj edged towards his terminal, touching his arm lightly as a sickening feeling formed in her stomach, "F-fey, are you okay?"
Oooh look - your boyfriend is talking to Lilith....
Contrary to popular belief, Lilith and I have a good relationship.
While Fey and I have a more-than-good relationship.
:)
That would mean you actually look at my face while you proceed to glare holes in the back of everyone else’s head or shoulders. I am honored that you do such!
Feymous to Hojo
