Today marks the first day of Dickens Fest in Garrison ND! Stop on by if you can!
Dickens Fest 2016, Garrison North Dakota by Arielle Seibold-Galston Via Flickr: As some of you may remember, I hail from a little town called Garrison in the great state of ND. I moved away when I was 12, but it's still very much home to me. And there are many things I love about Garrison. Lake Sakakawea being only a few minutes away, the wonderful people, the community spirit...but I think one of the best things is Dickens Fest. The town started Dickens fest when I was only a few years old, and they've been doing it ever since! The town transforms into the very picture of Christmas with a focus on Charles Dickens classic novel, A Christmas Carol. The town children become street urchins, caroling and begging for coins (I used to be one!), the citizens walk around in period costumes and at the end of the evening the town puts on a different version of A Christmas Carol at the local theatre each year. Before the play starts someone leads the crowd in a round of Christmas carols. It's all really very quaint and wonderful and storybook-eque. I finally got my friend Brittany to attend with me this year. And of course my husband and my dad came along as well. Brittany had been regaled with stories of Dickens Fest for years so she was very excited to be there, and she told me after we left that it totally lived up to her expectations! Overall it was one of the best years at Dickens Fest yet. I got to see old friends, some of whom I haven't seen for years an years, the weather was great and it started lightly snowing near the end of the evening, and we all had a great time! While there, I decided to practice taking candids of people and of the festival in general, simply because I need the practice as I struggle with photographing people and photographing anything in low light. So these photos aren't perfect, but what you'll see over the next week(s) are my photos of Dickens Fest 2016 and I really hope you like them and comment :)
