Fic: The Maiden with Durasteel Hands

A/N: Ever since watching TLJ, I’ve wanted to do a Finn/Rey riff on the fairy tale of the “Maiden with Silver Hands” or “The Girl without Hands.” So here is “The Maiden with Durasteel Hands”:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away there lived a junker who scavaged the ruins of old spaceships for salable parts.

One day, as the junker was searching for valuables to bring to market, he was approached by a strange old man.

“I will give you great riches if you will give me what is in that pile of scraps,” said the stranger.

The junker agreed to the stanger’s bargain. He told his wife later about the deal. When they received a delivery of a thousand credits, they celebrated their turn of fortune.

However, the junker had not realized that his own daughter had been playing in the scrap pile. And when the old man returned, he revealed himself to be a powerful, demented mage, a Sith Lord bent on bending the soul of the child to the Darkness.

Because of their deal, the junker had no choice but to turn over his daughter in return for his credits.

The Sith Lord tried many times to convince the child to join him on the Dark Side. However, the girl was too strongly protected by the Light Side of the Force and the Sith Lord could not come near her. The warm presence of the Light Side prevented his cruelty from penetrating her mind.

Finally, the Sith Lord ordered his apprentice to chop off the girl’s hands. The apprentice swiftly brought his saber down and swiped off both her hands in a single cut. The maiden wept as her tears ran down her arms and mingled with the blood that poured from the stumps.

The Sith Lord’s apprentice said without mercy, “You are nothing, you come from nothing, and you belong only to me.” He then left her to the desert to die.

The maiden wandered for many years in the wilderness with only the Force to guide her. She struggled to find food or water or to defend herself against many desert predators. After several days of wandering, she became so hungry she could barely stand and fell to her knees.

But the Force did not desert her. It brought to her side a kindly droid that beeped in alarm when it saw her state. After the droid ran a stormtrooper who was secretly a handsome prince. The prince was in awe of her otherworldy beauty, for it was unclear if the maiden belonged to the world of the living or the world of the spirit.

The prince took her aboard his ship to meet the queen. The queen’s mechanics fashioned the maiden a pair of durasteel hands.

With her new-fashioned hands, she was able to hold the hand of her prince and to wield a saber against her enemies. The prince fell deeply in love with the maiden with durasteel hands and promised he would never leave her.

However, at night, the maiden could still hear the cruel words of the Sith Lord’s apprentice ringing in her ears: “You are nothing, you come from nothing, and you belong only to me.” The echoing voice followed her everywhere, telling her that she was monstrous and that anything she created would turn to evil.

Over time, the maiden came to believe she was too broken to belong to her prince or the queen’s army. She ran away to a far-off planet where she could try to keep her Darkness safely away from her friends.

On the planet, she met a wise Jedi sage. The sage taught her many things about life, love and the Dark and Light sides of the Force. The creatures of the planet showed her about the ways of nature. Every night, the maiden’s hands grew back a little more until she no longer needed her durasteel hands to grip her saber or to make contact with others.

Meanwhile, her prince longed to reunite with his princess. He vowed to search for however long it took upon he found her again. The prince travelled far across the galaxy, exploring many forests, jungles, and deserts in many planets, before finding her in a small hut on a leafy-green planet.

Except when he found her again, she was no longer a broken maiden with durasteel hands but a powerful Jedi master even more beautiful than before. The king and the jedi master embraced each other. All the spirits, creatures, and droids they knew celebrated as they were married. And they lived happily ever after, having many more adventures together over the long years of their lives.

Alright first off and foremost, I’m completely in awe at how far I’ve come since I’ve made this blog (a month ago). I’ve always felt left out when it came to fandoms, groups or communities in general after awhile and the first day I made this blog and began making friends in this community, I literally cried because I was so happy. I felt so overwhelmed at how welcomed I felt and for once, I felt as if I belonged. I have all you guys to thank and I’m truly thankful for everything!

I want to give a shout out to some precious people who I love and hold dear and I wish to share with you all ♥

First off, I want to thank @nobiliseques my amazing best friend that I literally could not live without. For actually asking me to watch Fate a month ago! Despite me being utterly confused during Fate/Zero, you convinced me to at least give it a shot and not give up on it and here I am a month later utterly obsessed and in love with anything and everything associated with it. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to enter into this amazing community.

@ulsterswardog & @magnificentgoldenking OKEY, we are the Time Zone Trio(which is why I tagged you both together) and I love you guys so much. Never did I expect us to bond so well, or find out that we literally grew up in the same area before we moved to our current location like? What a great coincidence. And here we are planning to be future roommates and I’m so looking forward to what the future holds for us dweebs. I can already see us cosplaying our muses as a trio and posting random mun photo’s. Alright so @cuirteis , you were literally the first fate blog I came across after making Arturia and I absolutely adore the way you portray and write him. Like it’s so believable and your writing style is so gorgeous! When you followed me back, I literally screamed I was so happy. If it wasn’t for you I probably wouldn’t have found some of the other amazing roleplayers out there. You’re also such a sweet mun and I love talking to you when we do chat~
